Please prepare one 2-3 minute monologue (comedic or dramatic); if you’d like to present both a comedic and dramatic monologue then both monologues must be under 3 minutes total.
Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

Caroline and Rolan’s first (or third?) date begins as a pretty average night that ends at Caroline’s house in an upscale Chicago suburb. But when the city around them begins exhibiting signs that something is terribly wrong, they quickly have to learn to trust each other to stand a chance against the horrors outside the gate.
Caroline - Female. Millennial. Person of color. Fast talking. Doesn’t take any crap, keeps her own dilemmas private, incredibly capable at throwing silent shade. Hasn’t connected to a person in a long long time. Little self -involved, but has been through some real things. Trying to do the right thing. Messed up in the past. Rarely happens.
Rolan - Male. Millennial. Person of color. Fast talking, has a bit of a stammer, that doesn’t stop him. Would never admit he’s a hipster. Eager to please. Cautious but incredibly giving. Great at comfort and support, scary when silent; people pleaser.
Josephine – Female. A baby-boomer (60’s). Any ethnicity. Old school Chicago girl with a big heart that’s never to be confused with a doormat. Will slap you in the face if you need to wake up. Always knows what to do. Mind like a steel trap. Never forgets.

Lissette is a vibrant and fiercely independent young woman. But when a sudden diagnosis shatters her world into pieces, she finds herself at odds with her mother and her best friend, who each come bearing strong opinions wrapped in good intentions. With an overwhelming amount of choices to make in a very short amount of time, Lissette is forced to navigate between the two while unflinchingly forging her own path for her future.
Lissette - Female - Any Ethnicity. 30-40. Vibrant, funny and unabashedly unafraid. Passionate about life. Loves with her whole heart. A fighter even at her most vulnerable. Takes up space in the world without apology.
Peter - Male - Any Ethnicity. 30-40. An acerbic and dry wit. A caretaker - sometimes willingly - sometimes reluctantly. Has become too self reliant for his own good. Definitely not a risk taker. An adult orphan. Kind. Takes up very little space in the world.

For six strangers aboard The Coast Starlight from Los Angeles to Seattle, California is 1,000 miles of train tracks on which they’ll be forced to reckon with the choices they’ve made and try to chart a possible path forward. Keith Bunin’s new commission for La Jolla Playhouse is a smart, comic and compassionate play about our capacity for invention (and re-invention) when life goes off the rails.
T.J.- Early 20s. Friendly, open-hearted, thoughtful, polite, slightly formal, but warm. Working-class. From the country, not the city. Southern or Midwestern. A Navy medic.
Jane - Early to Mid-20s. Garrulous, bubbly, curious, extremely emotionally available, immediately appealing. East coast. The daughter of professors.
Noah - 30s. Scruffy, off-the grid. Not always sociable but never scary, genuinely empathetic. Working-class. Athletic. Takes care of himself. West coast. Well-read.
Liz - 30s/40s. Brash, emotionally sloppy, voluble, opinionated, loud, a fast talker. Working class, from Florida.
Ed - 40s/50s. A suit-and-tie salesman. Cynical, weary, sarcastic, sardonic. Doesn’t take very good care of himself. Middle-class. West coast.
Anna - 40s/50s. Soft-spoken, watchful, observant, tender, slightly reserved. Middle-class. West coast.

When the Spanish set their sights on Mesoamerica and its riches, they will destroy anyone and anything that keeps them from conquering and claiming it all for themselves. But the Aztecs are like, “Hell, no!” This fresh, irreverent and outrageous satire could only spring forth from the insanely hilarious mind of John Leguizamo.

This epic play/rock concert thrusts us into the life of a young woman trying to piece together her family history thirty years after her father fled Cambodia. Featuring a cast that performs a mix of contemporary Dengue Fever hits and classic Cambodian oldies.
