Breakdown

MALE AND FEMALE ENSEMBLE:

MAHI
Female, 20s – 30s, Hawaiian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble role of MAHI (The self-described “enchanting daughter of a fisherman.” She should be truly enchanting, at once a seeming naïf and a shrewd seductress. Has a knockout number in the Hawaii-centered Act Two.) Strong, clear, clean soprano belt. Low A to belted D, to strong choral high G. One major Act 2 song. FEATURED ENSEMBLE (OFFER OUT)

DOUGIE/TEIHUTU
Male, 40s, Hawaiian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble roles of DOUGIE and TEIHUTU ("Dougie" is a poker player in need of Lasik surgery. Teihutu is a somewhat demented Hawaiian working for Tommy. He sings "Ev'ry Day is Happy in Hawaii.") This actor may also cover the principal roles of TOMMY and JOHNNY SANDWICH (see descriptions above). Strong character baritone. Should have good low A and strong high G. One major Act 2 song. FEATURED ENSEMBLE (OFFER OUT)

RAYMOND/CHAN ELVIS
Male, 30s, Asian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble roles of RAYMOND and CHAN ELVIS (Two sides of pineapple-flavored con. Raymond runs Tommy’s Hawaiian household and is in equal portions cheerful and devious. Chan Elvis is an Asian Elvis impersonator and part of Tommy’s intense scheme to ruin Jack’s life.) Strong, warm character voice. High baritone or tenor 2. Low B to high A. Opens Act 2. FEATURED ENSEMBLE (OFFER OUT)

DAVE/ALEX, u/s JACK
Male, 30s, Caucasian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble roles of DAVE and ALEX (Dave is a douchey guy, but Jack’s best pal who really wants to see Jack happy and married and settled. He also turns into Alex, an actor hired by Tommy to play his non-existent son. He’s something of a stoner). And also cover the lead role of JACK (He has serious commitment issues, due to a pledge extorted from him by his dying mother. He’s funny and high strung, and he’s about to get in way over his head). Strong tenor to high B, with great pop sensibilities and yet can really deliver a lyric but also comfortable with complex, jazzy vocal harmonies. Besides big vocal moments, also needs to deliver the major, tender, heart-breaking ballad. This is a heavy singing track, but should also move well and have great physicality. FEATURED ENSEMBLE

ENSEMBLE, u/s JACK
Male, 30s, Caucasian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and cover the lead role of JACK (He has serious commitment issues, due to a pledge extorted from him by his dying mother. He’s funny and high strung, and he’s about to get in way over his head). Strong, high baritone or second tenor to high A, with great pop sensibilities and yet can really deliver a lyric but also comfortable with complex, jazzy vocal harmonies. Needs to do convincing Elvis vocalisms in Act 2. Besides big vocal moments, also needs to deliver the major, tender, heart-breaking ballad. This is a heavy singing track, but should also move well and have great physicality. ENSEMBLE

ENSEMBLE, u/s BETSY
Female, 30s, Caucasian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play a showgirl (so think leggy) and cover the lead role of BETSY (She’s been Jack’s fiancé for five years. Betsy’s a teacher, with great patience and understanding—up to a point. She passes that point in the course of the show). She sings and dances very well. Extremely strong, thrilling Soprano/Belt. Frankly, should be a first-class voice (typical of Jason Robert Brown writing for women) - low F# to belted E and comfortable with complex, jazzy vocal harmonies. Soprano to strong high C. This is a heavy singing track. ENSEMBLE

SWING, u/s BETSY
Female, 30s, Caucasian. To cover the onstage female ensemble (including showgirls) and the lead role of BETSY (She’s been Jack’s fiancé for five years. Strong soprano to high C. Needs to be adept at covering multiple and complex harmony parts/tracks. This is an offstage track. ENSEMBLE

SWING, u/s MAHI
Female, 20s-30s, to play Hawaiian. To cover the onstage ensemble and the featured role of MAHI (The self-described “enchanting daughter of a fisherman.” She should be truly enchanting, at once a seeming naïf and a shrewd seductress. Has a knockout number in the Hawaii-centered Act Two). Strong, clear, clean soprano belt. Low A to belted D, to strong choral high G. This is an offstage track. ENSEMBLE

SWING, u/s RAYMOND/CHAN ELVIS
Male, 30s, Asian. To cover the onstage ensemble and the featured ensemble roles of RAYMOND and CHAN ELVIS (Two sides of pineapple-flavored con. Raymond runs Tommy’s Hawaiian household and is in equal portions cheerful and devious. Chan Elvis is an Asian Elvis impersonator and part of Tommy’s intense scheme to ruin Jack’s life). Strong, warm character voice. High baritone or tenor 2. Low B to high A. Needs to be adept at covering multiple and complex harmony parts/tracks. This is an offstage track. ENSEMBLE

SWING, u/s TOMMY, u/s BUDDY/ROY
Male, 40s, Caucasian. To cover the onstage ensemble and the featured ensemble roles of TOMMY and BUDDY/ROY (Two sides of a very shiny coin. Buddy Rocky is the echt Vegas lounge singer; beneath his slick veneer is yet another slick veneer. Roy Bacon is the shit-kicking head of the Flying Elvis skydivers. His second act “Higher Love” is “Honeymoon’s” “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat”). Big baritone with fantastic top notes. Low G to high A. Should be a riveting voice, top to bottom. Needs to do amazing Las Vegas crooner (ala Steve Lawrence) in Act 1, and the embodiment of Elvis in Act 2. Needs to be adept at covering multiple and complex harmony parts/tracks. Major singing track! This is an offstage track. ENSEMBLE
