Preparation
Auditionees should prepare the brief song of their choice in the style of the show (or from the show). All should bring an updated photo & resume to the audition.

Breakdown
It’s 1962 - the ‘50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore’s Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion - to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, “The Corny Collins Show” and, overnight, is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can a trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the program’s reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her ‘do?
SEEKING:
Amber Von Tussle
20’s, Link’s girlfriend and Tracy’s nemesis. She is pretty, thin, shallow, snobby and racist. Can’t dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Always feel the need to be the center of attention. Vocal range: A3-F5
Corny Collins
mid 20’s-mid 30’s, The charismatic host of the Corny Collins show. Good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera. Vocal range: D4-A5
Edna Turnblad
30-40’s, Tracy’s big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Played by a male in drag. Vocal range: F3-G5
Link Larkin
20’s, The star heartthrob on Corny Collins’ show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. Vocal range: G3-A5
Motormouth Maybelle
40’s, African American, Seaweed and Little Inez’s mother, she also appears at the Guest DJ on the Corny Collins Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it. She is sassy and confident. Vocal range: F3- E5
Penny Pingleton
20’s, Tracy’s best friends and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free from her mother’s dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity.
Vocal Range: A-3-G5
Prudy Pingleton
40’s, Penny’s strict mother. Conservative, controlling and closed minded. Vocal range: D4-B4
Seaweed Stubbs
20’s, African American, Tracy’s classmate and friend who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly loveable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny. Vocal range: F3-D5
Tracy Turnblad
20’s, Our story’s unsuspecting protagonist, she is large and in charge. Confident, talented and incredibly determined. A romantic with a good heart and desire to cut up the dance floor. Always on top of the latest trends. Vocal range: G3-G5
Velma Von Tussle
40’s, Amber’s mother and the director of Corny Collins’ show. She is a devious taskmaster and snobby racist. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs will go to any length to ensure her daughter is the next big thing. Vocal range: G3-E5
Wilbur Turnblad
40’s-50, Tracy’s simpleminded and kind father. He owns a joke shop and supports his daughter in spite of everything else. He also loves his wife, Edna, very much. Vocal range – A3-A5
