A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY UNIT AT MEMORIAL SLOAN-KETTERING CANCER CENTER OF NEW YORK CITY by Halley Feiffer
Director: Trip Cullman
First Rehearsal August 8, performances September 5 until October 8
Karla: A charismatic woman in her late twenties whose pretty face and somewhat childlike demeanor belies an incredibly dirty mouth and mind. Will be played by Halley Feiffer.
Don: An unassuming man in his late forties. Employs a raging temper to mask the gaping wound left from his recent marital split and his mother’s illness.
Marcie: Karla’s mother. A painfully thin, pale, dyed-redhead in her fifties. Her dark humor belies not only oceans of pain, but also an abusive, selfish cruelty.
Geena: Don’s mother. A heavyset woman in her sixties who hasn’t paid attention to her personal appearance in about forty years. Brave. Tired.

Jordan: male, 25-30, neurotic but extremely lovable, and incredibly loyal. He's a talker, prone to loneliness, he likes to be around other people. Left to his own devices he can be a mess. A great comedic actor. Jewish
Laura: female, 25-30, the epitome of the best friend, warm and caring, vibrant in her own right, but thinks of herself as more suited to friendship than romantic love. All ethnicities
Vanessa: female, 25-30, very salty, tends to see the glass half empty until she unexpectedly finds love. With love comes all the things she swore she never wanted in life, like marriage; a great comedic actress. All ethnicities
Kiki: female, 25-20, a no filter girl, relishes her role as the audacious one of the group. A stellar comedic role that need the right balance of intelligence and warmth. Jewish
Helene: female, 50+ to play 80s, Jordan’s grandmother. Though maybe not as sharp as she once was, she is still very smart and quick-witted, has a lot of wisdom and life lessons to share. Jewish
Will, Conrad, Tony: male, 25-30, plays either the love interest or obsession of several characters in the play. All the characters are very handsome and smart; a versatile actor who is great with comedy. All ethnicities
Gideon, Evan, Roger: male, 25-30, a great character actor who is adept at playing multiple roles. Play both the chatty gay co-worker and the straight love interests. All ethnicities

Faye: Black woman, mid-to-late fifties. Working-class woman. Tough and a lifetime of dirt beneath her nails. Somewhere, deep compassion.
Dez: Black man, mid-to-late twenties. Working-class young man. Young hustler, playful, street-savvy and flirtatious. Somewhere, deeply sensitive.
Shanita: Black woman, mid-to-late twenties. Working-class young woman. Pretty but not ruled by it. Hard-working. By-the-books. Believes in the work she does. Also, pregnant. Somewhere, a beautiful dreamer.
Reggie: Black man, late thirties. White-collar man. Studious. Dedicated. Compassionate. The Foreman. Somewhere, a fire burns.
