ANNIE
By: Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin
Rehearsal and performances from May 23 – July 2.
Director: Lisa K. Bryant
Choreographer: Amy Jones

SYNOPSIS:
Based on Little Orphan Annie, the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a worldwide sensation. Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the beloved show features a wonderful score written by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, including the Broadway smash hit, “Tomorrow.”

With a perfect combination of street-smarts and optimism, Annie warms the heart of the audience as we witness her rise from next-to-nothing in New York City. She is determined to find her parents, who left her at the orphanage years ago. Though things don’t quite work out the way she has planned, she does manage to thwart the plans of the evil Miss Hannigan and find a new family with billionaire Oliver Warbuchs, his secretary Grace Farrell, and her lovable pooch, Sandy.

SEEKING:

Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks
40’s. Male. Baritone. Warbucks is a powerful and self-assured billionaire who always has his mind on business. At first awkwardly affectionate towards Annie, he soon finds himself completely charmed by her.

Grace Farrell
She is the loyal private secretary to Oliver Warbucks. Grace is mature, calm, and classy. Although she has feelings for Mr. Warbucks, she tries not to show them. She is businesslike when dealing with Miss Hannigan and Warbucks, yet maternal toward Annie. The student playing Grace can set herself apart from the other characters simply by the sophisticated way she walks. Grace should seem ready with an answer for just about anything. Each dramatic situation should seem to come “under control” the moment she glides into a scene.

Miss Hannigan
The villainous orphanage matron. Her distaste for her job and the children is obvious in all that she does and says. Must play comedy well. Switches back and forth from being mean to falsely loving in a split second.

Rooster Hannigan
Miss Hannigan’s despicable brother. Rooster is flashy and self-assured. His ‘moves’ are as smooth as a gambler’s; sly and deceiving. The actor in this role should bring a sense of fun to the character and have a good sense of comic timing.

Lily St. Regis
Lily is Rooster’s airhead girlfriend. She is always distracted, although she manages to pick up on any conversation involving money. Like Rooster, the actress playing this role should bring a sense of fun to the character and have a good sense of comic timing.

DIXIE SWIM CLUB
By: Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten
Rehearsals and performances June 20 – July 22
Director- TBD

SYNOPSIS:
Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her organized and perfect life, and continues to be the group's leader. Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever, is a career dynamo. But her victories in the courtroom are in stark contrast to the frustrations of her personal life. Lexie, pampered and outspoken, is determined to hold on to her looks and youth as long as possible. She enjoys being married—over and over and over again. The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life, has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos. And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry into motherhood that takes them all by surprise. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends, proving the enduring power of teamwork, rally 'round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB is the story of these five unforgettable women—a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever…

*The characters in this play will be portrayed at ages forty-four, forty-nine, fifty-four, and seventy-seven.

SEEKING:

Sheree Hollinger
the perennial team captain, is practical, supportive and a fount of boundless enegery. Never without her to –do lists or Pocket Scheduler, her tendency to be hyper-organized occasionally drives her friends a bit crazy. She’s the eternal tomboy, a health nut and an all-American mom who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her family.

Dina Grayson
the wise-cracking cynic of the group, has fought her way to the top and relishes the view. A lawyer in the biggest and most prestigious law firm in Atlanta, Dinah excels at everything….except romance. Armed with a dry marini and an even drier sense of humor, Dinah seldom reveals her softer side as she tackles life head-on.

Lexie Richards
a true Southern belle who lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is the vain, youth-obsessed event planner for a chain of four-star hotels. She has never shied away from the occasional nip or tuck and keeps her cosmetic surgeon on speed dial. Always one to revel in her status as a man-magnet, Lexie can be counted on to share wild and hilarious tales of her romantic exploits.

Jeri Neal McFeeley
is the ditzy ray of sunshine of the group. She’s perky and naïve and always sees the positive side of everything. Having been a nun for many years, Jeri Neal has been protected from life’s seamier side. Even though she appears to be predictable on the surface, Jeri Neal, recently relocated to Charlottesville, VA., continually makes life choices that surprise and amaze her friends.

Vernadette Simms
is a hard luck case if there ever was one. Marriage and motherhood came shortly after college, a dark cloud has hovered over her since. A public school teacher, with limited finances and a problematic home life in Spivey’s Corner, North Carolina, Vernadette is self-deprecating by necessity. She faces her tribulations with gallows humor and the unwavering support of these lifelong friends.

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
By: Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice
Rehearsal and performances from July 11– August 20
Director and Choreographer: Amy Jones

SYNOPSIS:
The biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes alive in the musical retelling. Joseph -- the favorite son of Jacob -- is blessed with vivid dreams that foretell the future. Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, Joseph endures a series of adventures which challenge him to his core. Soon he finds himself belonging to Potiphar, whose wife makes advances toward Joseph and ultimately land him behind bars. However, news of Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams sparks the interest of the hilariously Elvis-like Pharaoh. Soon, Joseph is out of jail and well on his way to second-in-command. Eventually Joseph’s brothers find themselves unknowingly groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed. As they fail to even recognize him, Joseph tests their integrity. He ultimately reveals himself and the brothers are reconciled. A truly timeless Old Testament tale, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is set to a multitude of musical genres, spanning from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock and roll.

SEEKING:

Narrator
Soprano with extended mix/belt range. Vibrant, energetic, charming performer, with a superior voice. Movement/dance experience preferred. The narrator must be adepts at both being the focal point and then “blending” into the scene. The narrator is onstage almost the entire show. Must be an animated storyteller.

Joseph
Jacob’s favorite son. Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. Singer/actor. Good looking, honest and likeable with good intent. Humble but proud and able to transition to the leader of a nation. Must believe in himself and his convictions. Vocal range high tenor.

Jacob
Aged patriarch. He overly dotes on Joseph, to the exclusion of his other sons.

Joseph’s 11 Brothers, Jacob’s other Sons
High energy & very active. Singers/dancers/actors. Need to be able to develop strong unique characters and sing harmony. Able to portray wide range of performance styles. Although acting usually as a group, they each have their own different personalities, talents, and flaws. They sing and dance their way through many situations and places. Conniving, self-centered, and jealous of Joseph's high aspirations and their father's favoritism toward Joseph, they change their ways in the end. Song styles include: Country-Western, French Bistro/Maurice Chevalier, and Reggae.

Pharaoh
The most powerful man in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god on earth. Should be an outgoing, engaging entertainer, able to take the stage and connect with an audience.

Potiphar
A powerful and rich Egyptian and Joseph’s employer

Mrs. Potiphar
Beautiful and scheming, dancer.

AMADEUS
By: Peter Shaffer
Rehearsal and performances from August 29 – September 30
Director: Lisa K. Bryant

SYNOPSIS:
The play explores the rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, the court composer for the Emperor of Austria in the late eighteenth century. Jealous of Mozart’s genius and resentful of his own mediocrity, the composer Antonio Salieri secretly rejects God and vows to destroy his rival's career.

SEEKING:

Antonio Salieri
plays himself in his late 30’s-40’s and also mid-70’s. Wry, charming, sophisticated and resentful of Mozart’s god-given abilities. As narrator of the play, Salieri leads the audience through the story. Requires excellent language and vocal skills.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
High-strung, childish, giggly, profane and vulgar, yet genuinely innocent. Physical theater training a plus.

Constanze Weber
Lively and lusty wife to Mozart. Beautiful and appealing as well as coarse and common. Musical background a plus. Several of her speeches are timed with Mozart’s music.

Joseph II
Amiable, short attention-spanned Emperor of Austria. The brother of Marie Antoinette. A Cheerful, dapper, pleased with himself individual.

Count Johann Kilian Von Strack
Stiff and proper Royal Chamberlain. Official to the bone. Humorless.

Count Orsini-Rosenberg
Supercilious and portly opera director. Grand and slightly pretentious.

Baron Van Swieten
Solemn and doctrinaire, Prefect of the Imperial Library. Ardent Freemason, lover of old music and probably lacking any sense of humor.

Venticelli #1 and Venticelli #2
The Venticelli are purveyors of fact, rumors and gossip throughout the play. They are the eyes and ears of Salieri. They often function as one mind.

Ensemble- The cast includes several silent parts as Salieri's valet, cook, wife, a priest, Giuseppe Bono, citizens of Vienna and servants. These parts will create an ensemble and chorus that together drive the action of the play.

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
By- Alan Menken and Howard Ashman
Rehearsal and performances September 19 through October 21
Director: Lisa K. Bryant

SYNOPSIS:
Little Shop of Horrors is a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN BLOOD.
As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of blood. Just when it’s too late, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s extra-terrestrial origins and his true drive for world-domination.

SEEKING:

SEYMOUR
mid 20s. Our insecure, nai?ve, put-upon, florists’ clerk hero. Above all, he’s a sweet and well-meaning little man. He is not a silly nerd, and therefore, should not be played as the hero of a Jerry Lewis film. Strong acting and singing required.

AUDREY
similar age to Seymour. The bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like secret love of his live. Sexy, insecure, sweet, and vulnerable. Honest. Strong acting/comedy and singing.

MR. MUSHNIK
(Old enough to ‘adopt’ Seymour as his son) Their boss. A failure of an East Side florist. He seldom smiles but often sweats. Strong character actor (some singing).

ORIN
A tall, dark, handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and cruel tendencies. Makes a couple of brief, but high impact, appearances. Strong character actor and singer.

VOICE OF THE PLANT
Provided by an actor on an offstage microphone, lip-syncing to the movements of the puppets. His voice is a cross between Otis Redding, Barry White, and Wolfman Jack. Think of the voice as that of a street-smart, funky, conniving Villain – Rhythm and Blues’ answer to Richard the Third. Strong character singer.

CRYSTAL, RONNETTE and CHIFFON
Late teens to 20s. Three female ‘street urchins’ who function as participants in the action as a Greek Chorus commenting and narrating the action. They’re young, hip, smart, and the only people in the whole cast who really know what’s going on. Must be strong singers, great with tight harmony. All must move very well.
