BREAKDOWN

DRAG, THE MUSICAL (Off Broadway)

SEEEKING:

[KITTY GALLOWAY] – ROLE IS CAST. Any gender to play Drag Queen, early 30s-mid 40s, any ethnicity. Kitty is a larger-than-life drag queen who exudes class, confidence, and charisma. She owns and operates The Cathouse, a drag club she passionately believes is the best in town, despite recent declines in attendance due to rival club The Fishtank’s success. Kitty is fierce, flamboyant, and often long-winded, with a penchant for dramatic monologues. Her unwavering belief in The Cathouse's superiority drives her to continually strive for greatness, even in the face of adversity. Kitty embodies the essence of a true diva, with a sharp wit, a commanding presence, and an unshakeable determination to see her club and her girls thrive. Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops and dancing ability, and strong command of comedic and dramatic performance.

[ALEXIS GILLMORE] – ROLE IS CAST. Any gender to play Drag Queen, early 30s-mid 40s, any ethnicity. Alexis is a self-made drag celebrity, HBIC of toast-of-the-town drag club, the Fishtank, and ex-romantic partner of the Cathouse’s Kitty Galloway (no one knows why they broke up, but they’ve got BAD blood). Alexis’ life’s mission is to make the world a more vibrant place with her drag sisters by her side. Despite her good intentions, her poor money management skills get the Fishtank into hot water with the IRS. She reluctantly calls in her brilliant accountant brother, Tom Hutchinson, to help after going years without speaking due to deep-seated childhood resentment. Though Alexis struggles to find connection with his brother, he is reminded of his love for the art of drag by the most unexpected person, his nephew Brendan. Alexis’ journey tests her idealistic nature as she learns how to let go of grudges to create the utopia of self-expression she has always dreamed of. Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops and dancing ability.

[TOM HUTCHINSON] - ROLE IS CAST. Male, mid 30s- late 40s, any ethnicity. Tom is a brilliant accountant who fancies himself as more of an entrepreneur, a single father, and a widow of four years. Out of the blue he gets a call from his estranged drag queen brother and drag club owner, Alexis, to help get his world-renowned club, The Fishtank, out of hot water with the IRS. Tom finds himself unexpectedly thrust into the vibrant and flamboyant world of drag along with his 10-year-old son Brendan. Out of his depth and struggling to adapt, He embarks on a journey of self-discovery, learning to embrace new perspectives and challenge his own preconceptions. He conveys a wide range of emotions, from bewilderment and resistance to acceptance and joy, ultimately discovering a newfound appreciation for the art of drag and the community around it. Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops.

[BRENDAN HUTCHINSON] - Male, 10-13, any ethnicity. The heart of DRAG: The Musical is ten-year-old Brendan. He tags along with his father, Tom Hutchinson, to his uncle Alexis’ drag club and becomes fascinated with the fabulous world of drag. Since losing his mother only four years ago, he struggles to connect with his father and holds onto her memory by wearing her flashy sunglasses when he’s feeling nervous or shy. As the story goes on, he finds the confidence he never knew he had and helps in healing his family’s generational trauma by showing the world who he is, unapologetically. Has an excellent singing voice.

[DIXIE COXWORTH] - Female, late 20s-40s, any ethnicity. Powerhouse singer Dixie brings her rock n’ roll spirit to the Fishtank as their resident cisgender heterosexual AFAB queen (assigned female at birth - think Elvira or Charro). She proudly represents fierce women who revel in expressing themselves through costumes and fashion. She naturally prefers the company of eclectic queer folk like her best friend and Fishtank owner Alexis Gillmore, but her usual taste is tested when strait-laced accountant Tom Hutchinson arrives to help save the club she adores. Often the voice of reason amongst the Fishtank girls, her grounded yet upbeat nature helps keep her fellow queens stay positive and focused on saving their club. Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops and dancing ability, and an energetic stage presence.

[POPCORN] – Any gender to play Drag Queen, 20s-40s, any ethnicity. A stunning songstress who puts the “pop” in Popcorn (or “Poppy” for short). Popcorn is the Fishtank’s quirky queen with big dreams of becoming the world’s next hit-making songwriter. She often pitches songs to the Fishtank girls to perform, but they never take her seriously – that is until little Brendan arrives and sparks inspiration for a new catchy song. Popcorn is industrious, persuasive, and no stranger to hairbrained schemes. Sometimes her antics can go too far – like the time she and Tuna went to nemesis drag club The Cathouse to ask for a job from haughty queen Kitty Galloway, only for Tuna to spill the beans about The Fishtank’s T with the IRS. Oops! Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops and dancing ability.

[TUNA TURNER] – ROLE IS CAST. Any gender to play Drag Queen, 20s-40s, Latina. Vivacious Tuna Turner is the walking talking telenovela of the Fishtank, always wearing her emotions on her sleeve. Spanish is her first language so she has a strong accent, but she speaks every love language fluently when it comes to her chosen family at The Fishtank. PROS: She is bubbly and warm-hearted CONS: Can be a blabbermouth and comes off a little too lustful - ESPECIALLY when she first meets Alexis’ brother, Tom, when he first arrives at the Fishtank. Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops and dancing ability.

[SAVANNAH ST. JAMES] – ROLE IS CAST. Any gender to play Drag Queen, 20s-40s, any ethnicity. Savannah St. James is a seasoned veteran drag queen at The Cathouse, where she stands out for her exceptional dancing and singing abilities. Savannah exudes elegance and confidence, fiercely loyal to her drag mother and The Cathouse owner, Kitty Galloway. Savannah's refined demeanor hints at her affluent upbringing, making her the only drag queen in the cast with a wealthy background. Despite her privileged origins, she has worked hard to earn her place in the drag community, always striving to be the best performer on stage. Savannah conveys a blend of sophistication, loyalty, and undeniable talent. Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops and dancing ability.

[THE TIGRESS] – ROLE IS CAST. Any gender to play Drag Queen, 20s-40s, any ethnicity. The Tigress is a fierce and formidable veteran drag queen at The Cathouse, where she commands respect with her powerful presence and exacting standards. She is deeply loyal to her drag mother, Kitty Galloway, whom she adores and reveres. The Tigress holds herself and her drag sisters to extremely high standards, often taking a tough-love approach, especially with newcomers like Puss Puss Du Bois. She isn't afraid to bully Puss Puss into shape, ensuring that everyone meets her expectations of excellence. Known for her sharp tongue and keen sense of observation, The Tigress is the go-to source for all the latest gossip in town. She exudes authority, confidence, and a fierce commitment to the art of drag. Has Pop/Rock vocal chops, comedic timing, and dancing ability.

[PUSS PUSS DUBOIS] – ROLE IS CAST. Any gender to play Drag Queen, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Puss Puss Du Bois is the freshest face at The Cathouse. She is a Southern girl in her 20s, sporting a heavy accent and an infectious enthusiasm for her new life in the big city. Her boundless optimism and naivety set her apart, often making her the target of heavy shade from the more seasoned drag queens. Despite being the club's punching bag, Puss Puss remains unfazed, her eyes shining with unbridled passion for the art of drag. She embodies the spirit of a dreamer, excited to carve out her place in the vibrant drag scene. Has excellent vocal chops, Dances well, and on-point comedic timing.

[GLORIA SCHMIDT/ RITA LARITZ/ LIBERTY VANDERSNATCH] - Female, 30s-50s, any ethnicity. Has excellent vocal chops, ability to “chew the scenery”, on-point comedic timing and the versatility to cover three extremely distinctive characters, including a drag king.

[DRUNK JERRY] - Male, 40s-70s, any ethnicity. Drunk Jerry is a lovable, seasoned character who is a cherished patron of rival drag clubs The Cathouse and The Fishtank. True to his nickname, Jerry is almost always inebriated, yet his perpetual state of drunkenness only adds to his charm and endearing nature. He has a wealth of stories and insights about the gay culture of the 1960s and 70s, which he shares with warmth, humor, and a slurred but captivating eloquence. He maintains strong friendships with both Kitty Galloway, the fierce owner of The Cathouse, and Alexis Gillmore, the starry-eyed owner of The Fishtank, acting as a bridge between the rival clubs. Jerry exudes a sense of history, resilience, and unconditional love for the drag community, even when he's three sheets to the wind. Has excellent Pop/Rock vocal chops and dancing ability, and strong command of comedic performance.

[ENSEMBLE DANCERS] Any gender (cis, trans, non-binary), all bodies, all ethnicities, 20s to 30s, to play various roles. All tracks will cover principals. Extremely strong Pop/Rock vocals and extremely strong dancers. Drag experience and dancing in heels a plus.
