Equity actors for roles in 2024-25 mainstage season, educational programming, and possible staged readings (see breakdown), Curious Theatre Company is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and seeking actors of all ages, races, ethnicities, body types, gender identities and physical abilities. In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. Harriet, his chief of staff: Late 40s-60s. A political bulldog who has chosen every aspect of her life, appearance, and personality in service of her career.
Jean, his press secretary. 30s-60s. A hawk in a turtleneck. A high-strung, quick-witted woman who can handle any pressroom and sterilize any scandal.
Stephanie, his secretary: 20s-60s. An obedient and diminutive. Terrified of failure and perpetually on the edge of nervous breakdown.
Chris, a journalist: She/her. 30s-40s. Black. Overburdened, under-slept, postpartum, newly divorced, on the brink of irrelevancy.
Bernadette, his sister: 30s-50s. A coked-up tornado with raw sexual charisma, fiery temper, and fantastic sense of humor.
Margaret, his wife: 40s-70s. Black. The First Lady. An impeccable combination of high fashion, corporate experience, and legal savvy.
Dusty, his dalliance: 20s-30s. A glowing, curious, sex-positive girl with a multitude of skills and a bright future! Loves civic duty! Loves democracy! Determined to make the world better!

Sandra – Black woman, late 30s, early 40s. Scholar, Professor of Political Science, practical, sturdy, compassionate with students, protected with her own emotions, and a striving spirit in the face of institutional racism. THIS ROLE IS CAST.
Sara – Black woman, early 20s. Tenacious, spunky, tough, and resilient. A slave woman with a fighting spirit, unwilling to be broken by her circumstances. Crafty and a sharp, witty tongue. Slowly becoming a Union Spy.
Abner/Malik: (Doubled Role)
(1) Abner – Black man, early 20s. Energetic and driven. A bit stubborn but strong-willed. A runaway slave and soldier for the Union.
(2) Malik – Black man, early 20s. Studious and focused on his education. Driven and intellectually stimulating.
Missy Sue/Candice: (Doubled Role)
(1) Missy Sue – White woman, late 30s, early 40s. Spirited, driven, a strong sense of duty and mission. Somewhat oblivious. Emotionally free and open.
(2) Candice – White woman, mid 20s. Loquacious, intellectually curious, and uncensored in her ideas. Can be misinterpreted as insensitive but is likely unaware. Emotionally free and open.
Luanne/Jade: (Doubled Role)
(1) Luanne – Black woman, early 20s. Curious, eager, and inquisitive. A fellow slave with SARA who has been afforded privileges Sara has not. In an affair with the Master.
(2) Jade – Black woman, late 30s, early 40s. Straight-shooter, unafraid of confrontation, down-to earth. Fellow professor and colleague to SANDRA. Navigates institutional racism.

Em: Late 30s - 40s. Married to ANDY, smart, suburban, sensitive - highly protective of Andy and her child.
Fred: 70s. White. Glasses, motorized wheelchair. On the sex offender registry, post incarceration. He is sincerely repentant and childlike in manner - not unlike Fred Rogers.
Dee: Pushing 60. Black. Thin, languid, also on the registry, post-incarceration. Defiant about his past.
Gio: 30s. Black. Muscular, clean-cut, ambitious, voluble. On the registry, post-incarceration. Considers himself above FRED and DEE.
Felix: 40s. Latino. Heavyset, solitary, silent. On the registry, post-incarceration. Tormented by his past.
Ivy: 40s - 50s. Black or Latina. Probation officer, overworked, weary. She makes weekly visits to and drop-ins on the group home.
Effie: Late teens - Early 20s. Any ethnicity. Hyperactive. Too much eye makeup. GIO’s co-employee at Staples. Vapes CBD to control her anxiety.
