SEEKING

15 actors for 2018 summer repertory season at the Contemporary American Theater Festival in Shepherdstown, WV.


PREPARATION

1-2 minute contemporary monologue, be prepared to cold read. Bring picture and resume.

ACTOR 1: Alexi/Azarov in MEMOIRS OF A FORGOTTEN MAN: Male, early 30’s, an intelligent, quirky, Russian man with an incredible memory. He is kind and trusting. He also plays Azarov, a carnival performer.

ACTOR 2: Kreplev/Vasily in MEMOIRS OF A FORGOTTEN MAN: Male, white, late 40’s-50’s, a government investigator with a secret past. He is a skilled Soviet interrogator in 1953 and he plays Alexi’s older brother Vasily in 1938. REPS with Tim in THE CAKE: Male, white, late 40’s-50’s, content, hard- working, loyal, the guy who solves things. Actor must be comfortable being on stage in their underwear.

ACTOR 3: Natalya Berezina/Madame Demidova in MEMOIRS OF A FORGOTTEN MAN: Female, white, early 40’s, a Russian psychologist, kind, caring and protective. Demidova is a displaced nosey aristocrat. REPS with Alexandra in THE HOUSE ON THE HILL: Female, white, 30’s-40, an old soul worn down by the hand she was dealt. She has worked hard not to live in the past by striving to stay in the present.

ACTOR 4: Della in THE CAKE: Female, white, late 40’s-early 50’s, she is pleasant, warm with a trusting presence. She is a small time baker with big time dreams. (Plus size frame). Actor must be comfortable being on stage in their underwear. REPS with Mother/Peasant Woman/Markayevna/Utkin in MEMOIRS OF A FORGOTTEN MAN: Female, 40’s-60. Versatile actor to play multiple roles.

ACTOR 5: Macy in THE CAKE: Female, black, 30’s, fierce intelligence, a keen observer, candid, loves Jen beyond measure. REPS with Samira in THIRST: Female, black, 30’s, measured, charismatic, and private and strong.

ACTOR 6: Greta in THIRST: Female, white, late 30’s, Samira’s lover, working class, impulsive, openly loving. REPS with Frankie in THE HOUSE ON THE HILL: Female, 30’s-40. She is outwardly put together and beautiful. She has fought to control her dark thoughts and emotions…she is an alcoholic, a lost soul with a lot of pain.

ACTOR 7: Kalil in THIRST: Male, black, a teenager to play a 9 year old boy, Samira and Greta’s adopted child. He is curious, anxious, but sweet.

ACTOR 8: Terrance in THIRST: Male, black 30’s. He is the leader of his people, magnetic, instinctive, and aloof.

ACTOR 9: Bankhead in THIRST: Male, black, mid-late 30’s, Terrance’s older brother and consigliere-considered, frank, pragmatic, but with a dark humor.

ACTOR 10: Coolie in THIRST: Male, black, late 20’s, Terrance’s militia commander—efficient, protective of his men, a true believer.

ACTOR 11: LeRoy in BERTA, BERTA: Male, black, late 20’s-30’s, an outlaw on the run with a heart of gold, confident swagger, irresistible charm. He has lived a rough life, dangerous and sensitive all at once. Actor must be comfortable with performing romantic scenes.

ACTOR 12: Berta in BERTA, BERTA: Female, black, late 20’s-30’s, a strong-willed but sensitive young widow who masks a history of pain and heartbreak with lethal wit and a fierce bark. Her sensuality and sexuality have long been dormant, but she longs for them to be reawakened. Actor must be comfortable with performing romantic scenes.

ACTOR 13: Jen in THE CAKE: Female, white, early 30’s, gregarious, deeply caring, hopeful, dreamt of her wedding day her entire life.

ACTOR 14: Young Alex in THE HOUSE ON THE HILL: Female, 18+, white, and plays the character at the ages of 5, 11, and 17. The oldest of four children Alex is a natural caregiver with a hard exterior. She is beautiful, popular, and doesn’t care what others think about her. She is adventurous and not afraid.

ACTOR 15: Young Frankie in THE HOUSE ON THE HILL: Female, 18+, white, plays the character at the ages of 11 and 17. Frankie is an only child, quiet and very self-conscious. She never feels included. She is naturally beautiful but tries to hide it.
