BREAKDOWN

About the play:

On the eve of the millennium in Northern Uganda, the daughter of an American missionary and a local teenage girl steal into a candlelit church to exchange vows in a secret wedding ceremony. But when an escalating civil war encroaches on their fragile union, they cannot escape its reach.

SEEKING:

Chris – Female, - to play 16 to 30 years of age, first as a child in love, the daughter of an American missionary, playful, focused, determined; and then as a visitor with a mission, forced to confront the past. Must be able to sing 4-part harmony a capella.

Adiel – Female, African – speaks with Ugandan dialect - to play 16 to 29 years of age, first as a child in love, a local teenage girl, thoughtful, compassionate; and then as a pastor’s wife, a kind, compassionate woman. Must be able to sing 4-part harmony a capella.

Pika – Male, African – speaks with Ugandan dialect - to play 13 to 27 years of age, first as a child solider, forced to be fierce but fragile; and then as a pastor, Paul, a romantic, joyful, strong beliefs, forced to confront the past. Must be able to sing 4-part harmony a capella.

Soldier – Male, African – speaks with Ugandan dialect - to play 20 to 22 years of age, first as a soldier, committed to his task, can be brutal, suspicious; and then as Francis, a local kid, struggling with his identity, his community and his religion. Must be able to sing 4-part harmony a capella.
