JULIAN MARSH: Mid 40s, male presenting, any ethnicity. High Baritone (D3–Ab4). A highly revered and feared Broadway director, Mr. Marsh commands the room. His charisma stems from his power, and he’ll stop at nothing in his drive for success. Sings: “Lullaby of Broadway” and “42nd Street (Reprise).”
DOROTHY BROCK: 40s-50s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (Eb3–B4). An established Broadway star, Ms. Brock demands respect. While manipulative and guarded, she is not blind to the truth. Moves well. Sings: “Shadow Waltz” and “I Know Now.”
PEGGY SAWYER: Early 20s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (Eb3–E5). An exceptionally talented, attractive, and hopeful up-and-comer. Peggy must rise to meet the moment. Excellent tapper. Sings: “Young and Healthy,” “We’re in the Money, and “42nd Street.”
BILLY LAWLOR: 20s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Tenor (Bb2–B4). A golden-voiced, handsome tenor, he’s the leading man of “Pretty Lady” and instantly fancies Peggy. Excellent tapper. Sings: “Young and Healthy,” “Dames,” and “We’re in the Money.”
MAGGIE JONES: 30-40, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (Ab3–Bb4). The coauthor of “Pretty Lady,” Maggie is a pro and consummate problem-solver. Excellent tapper. Sings: “Go Into Your Dance” and “Shuffle Off to Buffalo.”
BERT BARRY: 40s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Baritone (C3–D4). Co-author of “Pretty Lady,” Bert is a clever and endearing writer, comedian, and character man. Sings: “Shuffle Off to Buffalo.”
ANDY LEE: late 20s-30s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Baritone (D3–Db4). He is the no-nonsense choreographer of “Pretty Lady” and trusted side man of Mr. Marsh. Excellent tapper. Sings: “Go Into Your Dance” and “Lullaby of Broadway.”
ANNIE REILLY: 20s-30s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (Ab3–E5). A highenergy, funny, and cute chorus girl, Annie wisely sees Peggy’s potential. Excellent tapper. Sings: “We’re In the Money” and “Shuffle Off to Buffalo.”
PAT DENNING: 40s-50s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Baritone (D3–Eb4). A handsome former- vaudevillian and Dorothy Brock’s true love interest. Sings: “We’re Getting Out of Town.”
ABNER DILLON: 50s-60, male presenting, any ethnicity. Brock’s purported, portly love interest, Dillon is bankrolling “Pretty Lady.” Ensemble Singing.
OSCAR: 40s-50s, male presenting, any ethnicity. He’s the accompanist for “Pretty Lady.” Ensemble singing.

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: 20s-30s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Tenor (C3–B4). He is an energetic and ever-optimistic sea sponge. While dreaming of managing the Krusty Krab, he manages to become Bikini Bottom’s hero. Moves well and is very physical with great comedic skills. Sings: “BFF,” “(Just A) Simple Sponge,” and “Hero Is My Middle Name.”
PATRICK STAR: 20s-30s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Tenor (Bb2–Bb4). A big softie, Patrick’s ambitions rarely transcend his stomach. Spongebob’s BFF, affable and simple, Patrick’s loyalty is called into question given his fragile ego. Sings: “BFF” and “Super Sea Star Savior.”
SQUIDWARD Q. TENTACLES: 30s-40s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Baritone (A2–F#4). Jaded and cynical Squidward has been denied his deeply desired day in the spotlight. The driest squid in the ocean, he does his best to dampen the dreams of others. Excellent tapper. Sings: “I’m Not a Loser.”
SANDY CHEEKS: 20s-30s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (A3–E5). Smart and bold, Sandy is a Texan Squirrel who came to town for a research project. A close companion of Spongebob’s and ingenious scientist/inventor, Sandy is distrusted by the rest of Bikini Bottom. Sings: “Hero Is My Middle Name” and “Chop to the Top.”
EUGENE H. KRABS: 40s-50s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Tenor (B2–Bb4). Mr. Krabs is the greedy owner of the most successful fast-food restaurant in Bikini Bottom: The Krusty Krab. Spongebob’s boss, his only distraction from amassing more wealth is his daughter, Pearl. Sings: “Daddy Knows Best.”
SHELDON PLANKTON: 30s-40s, male presenting, any ethnicity. High Baritone (B2–G#4). Plankton is a single-celled organism and Mr. Krabs’ restaurant rival. As owner of the unsuccessful Chum Bucket, he will resort to anything – including hypnotic mind control – to gain customers. Has dance and rap skills. Sings: “When the Going Gets Tough.”

TEVYE: Mid 40s to late 50s, male presenting. Baritone (Ab2–F4). A likeable, humorous, hardworking, and pious man torn between the traditions of his faith and realities of his family life. While prone to blustering outbursts, Tevye is tamed by his daughters. Has excellent comedic timing. Sings: “If I Were a Rich Man,” “To Life,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” and more.
GOLDE: Mid 40s-50s, female presenting. Alto (A3–Eb5). Tevye’s wife, Golde is the family’s strength and manages the household and the personalities within it. She is concerned with finding good providers to marry their daughters. Has good comic timing. Sings, “The Dream,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” and “Do You Love Me.”
TZEITEL: Late 20s, female presenting. Alto (Bb3–D5). As Tevye’s eldest daughter, she is levelheaded, grateful and a hard worker. She pleads with her father to break his traditions and allow her to marry who she chooses. Sings: “Tradition” and “Matchmaker.”
HODEL: Mid 20s, female presenting. Mezzo-Soprano (B3–E5). Tevye’s passionate and sharp-tongued daughter who is intrigued by Perchik’s ideas. She challenges her father to see the changing world beyond his prejudices and bless her chosen marriage. Sings: “Matchmaker,” “Now I Have Everything,” and “Far from the Home I Love.”
CHAVA: Early 20s, female presenting. Alto (B3–C#5). Tevye’s scholarly and feisty daughter who defies her father’s wishes to stay away from Fyedka, and in turn, breaks his heart. Sings: “Tradition” and “Matchmaker.”
SHPRINTZE: Late teens, female presenting. Tevye’s fourth oldest daughter receives educational lessons from Perchik. Ensemble Singing.
BIELKE: Mid teens, female presenting. The youngest of Tevye’s daughters, she receives educational lessons from Perchik. Ensemble Singing.
YENTE: 60s+, female presenting. Alto (F3–Eb4). A busybody widow who is Anatevka’s matchmaker. She is a gossip whose heart is in the right place but is at odds with the new ideas of the younger generation. Strong comedienne. Sings: “The Rumor” and “Anatevka.”
MOTEL: Late 20s-early 30s, male presenting. Tenor (E3–F#4). The rather meek and miserably poor tailor, timidly seeking Tzeitel’s hand in marriage. He is sensitive and nervous but finds his confidence and proves his worth to Tevye. Sings: “Miracle of Miracles.”
PERCHIK: Mid 20s-early 30s, male presenting. Baritone (B2–E4). An educated outsider, his seemingly radical university ideas threaten the traditions of Anatevka. He is intense and committed to his cause but is subdued by Hodel. Sings: “Sunrise, Sunset” and “Now I Have Everything.”
LAZAR WOLF: Late 50s, male presenting. Baritone (C3–Eb4). The town’s wealthy, widowed butcher intent on marrying Tzeitel. He is friends with Tevye, but their relationship is put to the test when Tzeitel is in turn promised to Motel. Sings: “To Life.”
MORDCHA: 40-55, male presenting. The skeptical and obstinate innkeeper, and emcee of Tzeitel and Motel’s wedding reception. Ensemble Singing.
RABBI: Late 50s to late 60s, male presenting. Baritone (B3–C4). The wise, yet humorous spiritual leader of the village. Sings: “The Dream” and “Anatevka.”
MENDEL: 30s, male presenting. Baritone (Bb2–Eb4). The Rabbi’s adamant son who Hodel originally thinks is the best catch in the village. Sings: “The Rumor” and “Anatevka.”
AVRAM: 40s, male presenting. Baritone (D3–Eb4). He is the town bookseller who also keeps everyone advised on the news of the area. Sings: “The Rumor” and “Anatevka.”
NACHUM: 30s-50s, male presenting. He is the town beggar. Ensemble Singing.
CONSTABLE: 40s-50s, male presenting. A Russian military official who is friendly with Tevye but is unyielding in his obligation to carry out his orders. Non-singing role.
FYEDKA: 20s, male presenting. Tenor (G3–Ab4). A serious, yet compassionate and persistent Russian soldier who sees past the traditional ethnic barriers of the town and falls in love with Chava. Sings: “To Life.”
THE FIDDLER: Any age, male presenting. Convincingly [fakes] plays (or play if possible) the violin and moves well. Ensemble singing.

NORMA DESMOND: 50s-60s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (F3–Eb5). A former silent screen star, she is fragile, eccentric and lives in an isolated dream world of the past. Sings: “With One Look,” “New Ways to Dream,” and “As If We Never Said Goodbye”
JOE GILLIS: Early 30s, male presenting, any ethnicity. High Baritone (A2–G4). A film writer, Joe is charming and self-assured but down on his luck. He is an opportunist and in over his head when he partners with Norma. Sings: “Let’s Have Lunch,” “Girl Meets Boy,” and “Sunset Boulevard.”
BETTY SCHAEFER: Late 20s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Soprano (A3–G5). An aspiring writer, she works as a script reader at Paramount. She is smart, professional, and idealistic, and wants to collaborate with Joe on a script. Sings: “Girl Meets Boy,” and “Too Much in Love to Care.”
MAX VON MAYERLING: 60s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Bass-Baritone (G2–Gb4). Norma’s doting butler and first husband. Her biggest fan, his life is devoted to Norma and maintaining her delusional world. Sings: “The Greatest Star of All” and “New Ways to Dream (Reprise).”
CECIL B. DEMILLE: 60s, male presenting, Caucasian. Baritone (Ab2–Db4). The famous director, he has a fatherly affection for Norma whom he helped make a star. Sings: “Was That Really Norma Desmond?”
ARTIE GREEN: Early 30s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Tenor (C3–G4). A hardworking director’s assistant, he is Betty’s boyfriend and Joe’s friend. He is generous, energetic, and friendly. Sings: Let’s Have Lunch” and “This Time Next Year.”

JENNA: 20s-30s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (Gb3–Eb5). Jenna’s stuck waitressing in a small town, in an unhappy marriage, and with an unwanted pregnancy. She expresses herself by baking pies and finds happiness in her coworkers, Dawn and Becky. She lives paycheck-to-paycheck and is actively trying to get away and start anew. Sings: “What Baking Can Do,” “It Only Takes a Taste,” and “She Used to Be Mine.”
DAWN: 20s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (G3–Eb5). Jenna’s coworker and friend, she is eccentric, yet kind. Dawn is meticulous, making sure that everything is in its proper place and done at the exact right time. She has an extensive rare turtle collection and has played Betsy Ross in 33 Revolutionary War re-enactments. Sings: “When He Sees Me” and “I Love You Like a Table.”
BECKY: 40s-50s, female presenting, any ethnicity. Alto (Eb3–Eb5). The older and wiser of the three waitresses. She is compassionate, witty, and no-nonsense. Life hasn’t always been kind to Becky, but she has made it through for the better with her wicked sense of humor and excellent comedic timing. Sings: “Soft Place to Land” and “I Didn’t Plan It.”
DR. POMATTER: 30s-early 40s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Tenor (Bb2–Bb4). Jenna’s gynecologist, he is new to town and starts an affair with her. He is equal parts intelligent, endearing, and awkward. He has a big heart and a quirky sense of humor. Sings: “It Only Takes a Taste” and “You Matter to Me.”
CAL: 40s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Baritone (D3–F4). The short order cook at the diner, Cal is gruff, impatient, unsentimental, and yet strangely appealing. He is constantly annoyed by the waitresses but cares for them despite his demeanor. Sings: “Opening Up” and “Bad Idea (Reprise).”
EARL: 20s-30s, male presenting, any ethnicity. High Baritone (Eb3–G4). Jenna’s controlling husband. Earl peaked in high school and drowns his broken dreams with cheap beer. He is narcissistic, insecure, and dense, and prone to extreme and sometimes violent outbursts. Sings: “You Will Still Be Mine.”
OGIE: 30s, male presenting, any ethnicity. Tenor (C3–Bb4). Ogie is quirky and lovable. After a single date with Dawn, he is smitten-bordering-obsessed and eventually wins her affection through his persistence. Excellent comedic timing. Sings: “Never Getting Rid of Me” and “I Love You Like a Table.”
JOE: 60s-70s, male presenting, any ethnicity. High Baritone (B2–G#4). The owner and daily customer of the diner where Jenna works. He is demanding, curmudgeonly, and inappropriate, as well as exceptionally insightful. He has a soft spot for Jenna. Sings: “Take It from An Old Man.”

TOMMY DEVITO: 30s, male presenting. Tenor (Db3–B4). A handsome, charismatic, smooth-talking operator with a quick temper, Tommy is a born hustler from a tough neighborhood and the essence of Jersey cool. Sings: “Earth Angel,” “Walk Like a Man,” and “Who Love You.”
NICK MASSI: 30s, male presenting. Bass (Eb2–E4). A steady, sturdy, lumbering man of few words with a police record and a strong musical talent. Nick is a dreamer who longs for a life after the Four Seasons. Sings: “Sunday Kind of Love,” “Walk Like a Man,” and “Stay.”
FRANKIE VALLI: 20s-mid 30, male presenting. Tenor with a well focused falsetto (C3–F5). Charismatic and charming with a unique voice, Frankie is taken under Tommy’s wing and becomes a huge star. He is loyal to a fault. Sings: “My Mother’s Eyes,” “Sherry,” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.”
BOB GAUDIO: 20-mid 30s, male presenting. Tenor (Bb2–Bb4). Something of a boy genius, nerdy, fresh-faced Bob is the keyboardist and songwriter. He is smart and savvy beyond his years. Sings: “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night),” “Stay,” and “Let’s Hang On (To What We’ve Got).”
GYP DECARLO AND OTHERS: 40-mid 50s, male presenting. Tenor (C3–Db5). Tough, Mafioso type; a strong character. Ensemble Singing.
BOB CREWE AND OTHERS: 30-40, male presenting. Bass (Eb2–Db5). Intelligent and flamboyant; genius music producer and lyricist; an integral part of creating the magic of The Four Seasons. Ensemble Singing.
