Lilli Vanessi/Katharine Minola—35-50, Brilliant star of stage & screen. Ex-wife of Fred. Elegantly beautiful, passionate, hot-tempered, intelligent; born to be a performer. Every inch a star, but underneath wit & glamour is vulnerable woman looking for true love & companionship. (Soprano: Low A to Sop G - also Bb)
Lois Lane/Bianca Minola—20-30, actress, more unique than quintessential dim ingenue, but in that world. Full of undeniable charisma. Nightclub singer in first featured stage role. Sexy, flirty & flighty but with heart of gold. Must be strong dancer. (Belt/Low G to Mezzo -to an F)
Bill Calhoun/Lucentio—20-30, A ne’er-do-well Broadway hoofer who has bit of a gambling problem. Ladies' man; attractive, confident, sexy, can charm the pants off of anyone. Excellent dancer. (Baritone Low G up to an F)
General Harrison Howell- 40-55, Career military officer, newly minted politician & Lilli's new man. Hard-bitten, conservative chauvinist who likes rules, order, precision. Opposite of theatre person. (Baritone - Low B up to an F)
Hattie—35-50, Lilli’s dresser & confidante. Anchor for Lilli & company; must sing well & move. Warm & wise, been around the block. (Low G up to an F). Belt w/strong high mix
Paul—Any age, Fred’s dresser & friend; solid, stand-up guy. Featured in Too Darn Hot- must be exceptional dancer. (Baritone - C up to an F#)
First Man (Gangster)—30-50+, Archetypical Damon Runyan style gangster/hit man complete with accent. Also appears in The Shrew (unexpectedly). (Baritone - Low B up to an F)
Second Man (Gangster)—30-50+. Bit more reserved & dryer of wit than First Man. Damon Runyan-style gangster/hit man. (Baritone - Low B up to a D)
Harry Trevor/Baptista—50+, Veteran character actor, Kate's long-suffering father in Taming of the Shrew; shows affection for/spoils Bianca, wants to get rid of Kate.

Hungarian-Jewish family in Batista’s Havana on brink of Cuban Revolution. When their maid’s son, a guerrilla fighter is injured, they must choose between protecting him & guarding their fragile prosperity since emigrating to Cuba after WWII. Weaves together music/traditions of 2 worlds, asking questions about family, community, religion, politics
Rebecca: 18+ to play 16. Dreams of writing comics. Seeks escape from scars Holocaust left on her troubled Jewish immigrant parents. (Alto–young quality, clear tone)
Yutka: 40s. Rebecca's mother. Beautiful but weathered Hungarian Jewish Holocaust survivor, keenly intelligent but thinks always like a refugee. Her experiences have made her wary & pragmatic; trusts nobody outside her family & is harshly critical of those within. (Alto)
Pinchas: 40s. Rebecca's father. Gifted tailor, lacks the grit/business acumen he would need to build a business in Havana that would rival chain of haberdasheries his father built back in Hungary. Acutely feels his wife's contempt for him; longs to win back her respect. (Bari/tenor)
Arturo: Male Latino. Late 30s-mid 40s. Pinchas's client. Government official for Batista Regime with taste for fine 2-piece suits & corrupt schemes. Suave, facile, charming, dangerous (Bari/tenor)
Maria: 40s. African American. Afro-Cuban housekeeper/nanny. Originally from country town of Bayamo, came to Havana looking for work after husband was killed by soldiers who mistook him for a rebel. Practices Santeria. Has a close, almost maternal, bond with Rebecca (Alto- belter)
Teo: Maria's son. 18+ to play 17. African descent. Politicized by murder of his father, is a guerrilla fighter prepared to risk his life for the revolution. Soft-spoken, intelligent, has the self-seriousness of one who has forced himself to grow up too quickly. Falls in love with Rebecca. (Bari/tenor)
Batista: 50s. Dictator of Cuba. Sentimental, almost gentle man. At a moment's notice will dial firing squad on his solid gold phone. Equally sincere in his affection & rage. (Baritone)
Sanchez: Latino. Aide to Batista. Sturdy, always the biggest man in the room. (Bari/tenor)
Olga: 20s. Yutka‚s sister, a ghost. Died in the war; haunts both Yutka & Rebecca. (Soprano)

Former socialites, unemployed actors, capitalists down on their luck, & Eleanor Roosevelt try to get through the Depression with some dignity intact.
Hennie: Young woman fighting to stay hopeful during the Depression. African American, 20s-early 30s. (High belt. Soulful, gospelly, R&B)
Harvey: Sweet natured intellectual lost in the miasma of the soup kitchen, African American, late 20s - 30s. (Beautiful tenor voice.)
Zoe: CAST
Polly: Big businessman with 2 daughters he doesn’t know what to do with. White, balding, put him in a Monopoly hat & it fits. Late 40s-60s. (High Baritone, big belt)
Eleanor Roosevelt: Charmingly buoyant. Soprano. Ageless & over forty, race flexible.
Handcuff Sister 1 & Handcuff Sister 2: Two 12-year old girls. Don’t know more about them yet but they’re trouble. White.
Boris: WWI-veteran disillusioned by Bonus March. African American. Early 40s. Baritenor.
