Theater artists who would like to join a strong existing ensemble company, with a deep commitment to mentorship. This is the 30th season of Free Shakespeare in the Park.
Puck - A mischievous fairy who delights in playing pranks on mortals; they are Oberon’s servant. They have a connection not only to the fairy and human worlds of the play, but also to the world of the audience. NOTE: Extremely physical on a large outdoor stage. Experience/understanding of Persian, Indian, Afghani or Eritrean cultures a plus.
Philostrate - Theseus’s Master of the Revels (party planner) who is responsible for organizing the entertainment for the Duke’s marriage celebration.
Peter Quince - The community theatre director/stage manager who can't quite keep all the details or actors sorted out. A visionary without a clue.
Francis Flute - The bellows-mender chosen to play Thisbe in the play. A grown man forced to play a young girl in love.
Helena/Helanus - Young (18-25) noble person (male, female or non-binary presenting), tall, slightly awkward, perhaps untraditionally attractive. Former beloved of Demetrius, now rejected. We encourage gender non-conforming actors to audition. NOTE: May be asked to kiss in performance, very physical comic fight choreography likely.
Lysander/Lysandra - Young (18-25) person (male or female or non-binary presenting) in love but forbidden to marry Hermia. We encourage gender non-conforming actors to audition. NOTE: May be asked to kiss in performance, very physical comic fight choreography likely.
Hermia - Young (18-25) noble woman (female presenting), small of stature, feisty, traditionally attractive female presenting, in love with Lysander, but being forced to marry Demetrius. NOTE: may be asked to kiss in performance, very physical fight choreography likely.
Demetrius - Young (18-25) noble man (male presenting) formerly in love with Helena/Helanus, but now in love with Hermia and preferred by Father-in-law. Ambitious, slightly arrogant. NOTE: May be asked to kiss in performance, very physical comic fight choreography likely.
