Equity actors for roles in MILO IMAGINES THE WORLD (See breakdown).

PREPARATION

Please prepare 32-bars of a song (Preferably a pop or music theatre song that shows range and in some cases dexterity with comedy) and a one-minute monologue. Bring sheet music; an accompanist is provided. Also bring one picture and resume, stapled together.

MILO IMAGINES THE WORLD

SEEKING:

MILO

(a 7-year-old Harlem boy). A child, male identifying singer/dancer. The dynamic artist hero at the heart of our story. A self-possessed young person with the ability to embody that special Harlem swagger. A great singer who can also sustain scene work of considerable length. A boy of sensitivity and soul. Dances and/or moves very well. He is smart, quick-witted, bold with a precocious quality. Delivers scene work of poignancy and intimacy and will also lead soaring musical theater numbers of larger scale. 10-14 years of age to play 7. Black. Vocal Range A3 – D5.

ADRIENNE

(Milo's teenage sister). Female identifying. A teenager between 13-16 years old. A great musical theater singer/dancer who realizes and embodies a young Black woman growing up in New York City, who is on the verge of adulthood. Able to access great warmth and joy while also being in command of a particular resilience and mettle at the heart of the character. Moves very well. A dance background is welcome but not a deal breaker. Black. Vocal Range A3 – D5.

JIM THE DEBBIE DOWNER

(doubles as T Rex/Scary Strange Adult 2). Male identifying musical theater singer with considerable physical transformation abilities and impeccable comedic sensibilities. Clowning experience or comparable skills are a plus. Moves very well and is comfortable with broad physical comedy ideas in the vein of the great Michael Jeter. Sings: How I Lost My Bird. Any Ethnicity. Any Age. Vocal Range C#3 – G4.

KEVIN

(doubles as Super Cool Guy/Doorman/Scary Strange Adult 1). Male identifying musical theater singer with physical transformation skills and impeccable comedic sensibilities. Embodies a teenage heartthrob and also an adolescent boy of privilege. Moves very well - a dance background is welcome but not a deal breaker. Sings: This Boy's a King. White. Vocal Range Ab2 – Ab4.

MELANIE THE BREAKDANCER

(doubles as Edgar the Driver/Dentist). Female identifying musical theater dancer or professional dancer who sings well. The ability to breakdance, pop and lock, vogue, and/or do contemporary dance is a huge plus. Experience with solo dancing and solo singing. Able to embody Harlem Swagger and coolness. Sings: My Expression (Get Up, Get Out). POC. Late teens to early twenties. Vocal Range A3 – D5.

MOM

(Milo and Adrienne's mother). Female identifying singer of great warmth, sincerity, and strength. Able to communicate the intellect, dignity, and love at the heart of this character while also embodying the weight and turmoil of the character's circumstances. A woman who loves her kids fiercely and projects calmness, serenity, and meditation. Black. No specific vocal range but must be able to sing.
