Lakewood Cultural Center Presents
World-renowned, maverick organist, Cameron Carpenter
Friday, February 2, 2024 at 7:30 p.m.
The spring season kicks off with a true virtuoso composer and performer, Cameron Carpenter, who is known worldwide for his fearless interpretations of the classics and is the first organist to ever be nominated for a Grammy Award for a solo album.
The Los Angeles Times states, “Carpenter is one of the rare musicians who changes the game of his instrument… He is a smasher of cultural and classical music taboos. He is technically the most accomplished organist I have ever witnessed… And, most important of all, the most musical.”
A graduate of New York’s famous Julliard School, Carpenter has spent nearly two decades mesmerizing audiences with his uniquely contemporary style of playing such a traditional instrument. Audience members whose familiarity with the range of an organ from hearing it used in church services will be radically surprised by what Carpenter can do with it.
“Carpenter is a ground-breaking organist, and we’re thrilled to have him in Lakewood this season,” said Lakewood Cultural Center Administrator Rita Sommers, Cultural Center administrator. For his Lakewood performance, Carpenter will be drawing from the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, a figure whose compositions have played a critical role in Carpenter’s musical evolution.” The Lakewood concert will include “The Goldberg Variations,” one of the ultimate keyboard challenges.
