Lakewood Cultural Center Presents
Groundbreaking Celtic harpist Maeve Gilchrist
Tickets start at $29 at Lakewood.org/LCCPresents, 303-987-7845 or the Box Office
Hailed as a phenomenal harp player with unparalleled purity,Maeve Gilchristhas revolutionized the Celtic harp by stretching its harmonic limits and improvisational possibilities. Gilchrist will be joined by guitarist Kyle Sanna for a one-night-only performance at the Lakewood Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13 as a feature of the Lakewood Cultural Center Presents 25th anniversary season.
Originally from Scotland, Gilchrist has been captivating audiences worldwide for 17 years. She tours internationally, has recorded five albums and performs as a soloist, bandleader and collaborator. Her innovative approach to the harp has led critics such as The Irish Times to declare Gilchrist’s music “buoyant, sprightly and utterly beguiling.”
Gilchrist has solidified her status as a groundbreaking harpist through collaborations with prestigious artists such as the Silkroad Ensemble, Yo-Yo Ma and Kathy Mattea. For this performance, she partners with Sanna, a “first-rate, versatile musician” (The New Yorker) whose talents include composition, improvisation and the rich traditions of Irish music.
During the Lakewood Cultural Center performance, the duo will highlight compositions from Gilchrist’s album “The Harpweaver” and new music being workshopped for future recording. The Pulitzer-prize-winning poem “The Ballad of the Harpweaver” by Edna St. Vincent Millay inspired Gilchrist’s current album and is woven throughout the program in narrative form.
Looking for an exceptional Valentine's experience? Beat the rush and celebrate the night before, with this performance at the Lakewood Cultural Center. Tickets are available for Maeve Gilchrist and all spring performances from the robust Lakewood Cultural Center Presents season schedule. Purchase tickets starting at $29 at 303-987-7845, the Box Office at 470 S. Allison Parkway or online at Lakewood.org/LCCPresents.
