Embers Borne West is a time-shifting play by Maddox K. Pennington that explores themes of intergenerational resilience and identity within a Cherokee family. The story follows Wenona and Duke Jacobs as they leave their small Oklahoma hometown for Los Angeles in 1927, facing challenges to their Native identity in a segregated city. A century later, Wenona's non-binary descendant, Jay, experiences similar identity struggles, reflecting on culture and family connections across time. The play intricately weaves humor and heart to delve into the complexities of migration and personal identity.
