The worlds of wine and art pair perfectly as professional artists have submitted their creations for the Georges Duboeuf "Artist Collector Series" Label Competition. Artists entered for the chance to have their art featured as the centerpiece of the 2018 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau label. Not only will the winning art appear on over one million bottles in the US, but Artist's Grants, totaling nearly $5,000, will be awarded to the winning artist and runners-up if their works are chosen for additional Nouveau Label opportunities. This year's theme for the submissions has been work that reflects the fresh, youthful and vibrant qualities of Beaujolais Nouveau and would be suitable for a wine label.
Last year's inaugural competition to find original artwork for the 2017 Beaujolais Nouveau label was a great success, encouraging the winery to repeat it this year. Situated in the heart of Beaujolais, Les Vins Georges Duboeuf is a family owned-and-operated winery with a rich history of collaborating with artists to create iconic labels, going back more than 35 years. 2018 is the 36th vintage of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau coming to the US.
Stephen D. Kreps and his son, Dennis Kreps are the Co-owners for Quintessential Wines, the exclusive importer of Les Vins Georges Dubouef. We asked Stephen why he thinks the contest is so popular. "We're thrilled, but not really surprised, by the number of artists that entered this year and the high quality of their works. The 'buzz' last year's competition generated, not only on social media and the internet but also in print and broadcast (and from word-of-mouth in artist's circles), certainly helped make people aware of the competition and look for it in year two. When you add the more than 1 million bottles of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2017 on retail shelves that featured that colorful, joyous art by "up-and-coming" artist Ari Azzopardi-Robinson, that's a pretty powerful, immediate reminder for the competition and its impact. All of this year's finalists' works would make great labels, so the competition is especially fierce. I can't want to see who the winner is!"
This year's art contest had 680 entries, 24% more than last year. From those, 11 finalists have been chosen. As of mid-April, consumer reach on Social Media has been over 3 million. That's a 500% increase from last year's competition.
Voting for the winner ends on May 1, so now is the time to make your choice.
