The Fireman Hospitality Group is has just reopened a completely refreshed Redeye Grill - a dining staple in midtown Manhattan for over 25 years - and introduced a new bistro concept within the walls of the restaurant called 888 Cafe & Bar at Redeye Grill. Located across from Carnegie Hall, Redeye Grill's name is derived from the infamous late-night flight linking America's two cultural hubs. Featuring ceiling columns painted by celebrated artists along with original Red Grooms artwork, Redeye Grill will continue to provide diners a sophisticated, timeless, and comfortable atmosphere, as well as a varied menu that is highly unique to the marketplace.
The menu at Redeye Grill brings back classics such as the famous "dancing shrimp," sushi burger, lobster cobb salad, and banana cream pie. There are lots of new surprises too including artichoke lasagna, grand raw bar and sushi platters, year round stone crab, and American wagyu steak.
With the unveiling of the American bistro dining experience 888 Cafe & Bar, diners can enjoy comfort food all day long. The space shares a wrap around bar and cocktail menu with Redeye Grill. A seafood tapas counter holds court at the bar as guests choose from a wide range of petite seafood bites, as well as a selection of sandwiches, salads, and refined comfort items available all day.
Emphasizing a carefully curated beverage program designed to complement the food, Redeye Grill and 888 Cafe & Bar feature seasonal cocktails and an approachable selection of wines. In addition, there are an array of fresh pressed juices and low calorie sodas.
Redeye Grill is well-known for its colorful art and owner Shelly Fireman has added whimsical works, both sculptures from his personal collection and created himself, throughout Redeye Grill and 888 Cafe & Bar. These include two major pieces specifically crafted for the space: a duo of colorful women made of "candy" confidently standing over the bar at each end on illuminated pedestals. The 88-foot mural by the world-renowned artist Red Grooms remains as a tribute to his impact depicting modern life in America.
"We had a small kitchen fire in April 2018. Instead of just fixing the kitchen, we decided to do a fun redesign of the whole space," says Fireman. "It's still the classic Redeye that we all know and love, just a few more elements thrown in. And the place is so big I just thought, hey, why not put two restaurants inside of one."
The Redeye Grill dining room has 200 total seats and 888 Cafe & Bar has 80 seats. Redeye Grill and 888 Cafe & Bar are open for lunch and dinner service. 888 Cafe & Bar is also open for weekend brunch and will serve breakfast starting soon.
