Nothing warms your soul more than cozying up with a cup of cocoa, especially if it is topped off with a bit of sweet or a hint of booze. We've rounded up some of our favorite spots in New York City where you can relax and celebrate National Hot Chocolate Day. And make them go-to spots to warm you up all winter long.
Trademark Grind (38 West 36th) Their baristas have whipped up a over-the-top hot chocolate with cacao rouge, your choice of skim, almond or soy milk, and torched meringue. That whole concoction is topped with their signature Doffle, which is a donut waffle mashup. Trademark Grind's "Doffle Hot Chocolate" is available while doffle garnishes last. Jacques Torres Chocolate - With locations all over the city, you'll want to stop by for their "Wicked Hot Chocolate." This zesty, decadent drink has been created by one of the best known chocolatiers. Visit: http://www.mrchocolate.com/.
Casa Neta (40 East 20th Street) The Flatiron Hotspot is sticking with their tequileria roots with their seasonal "Mexican Hot Chocolate." Housemade hot cocoa is spiked with a touch of tequila and a splash of mezcal and garnished with a freshly made cinnamon and sugar churro. Try a full size or mini. Visit: http://www.casanetanyc.com/.
Haven Rooftop (132 West 47th Street) Located atop the Sanctuary Hotel in Times Square, is currently featuring a "Tipsy S'mores" on their cocktail menu. Rich and chocolaty with just the right hint of peppermint, it's one of our favorite winter warm-up drinks. Visit: http://www.havenrooftop.com/.
Belle Shoals (10 Hope Street) They have transformed their outdoor patio into a magical holiday garden called "Silver Belles" for the season. There you can enjoy their "Choco Choco Oaxaca" - housemade hot cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon and a spicy kick of cayenne pepper. Enjoy is as is or with a mezcal spike for an extra charge to add delicious layers of smoky notes. Either way, it is topped with a generous serving of house whipped cream. Devocion (69 Grand Street, Brooklyn) The Colombian Coffee roaster/cafe in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, serves their special "Hot Chocolate" from L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates ($6.50) using a unique blend of South American and Caribbean shaved chocolate. L.A. Burdick uses chocolate made from cocoa beans of superior quality, mostly strains of Criollo and Trinitario varieties from the finest cocoa growing regions in the world. Visit: www.devocion.com.
Boulton & Watt (5 Avenue A) This popular spot in the East Village is serving up their boozy "Muy Cocoa." Crafted with dark cocoa and heavy cream then spiced up with a kick of Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueur and balanced with nutty notes of Cafe Borghetti Espresso Coffee Liqueur. As if that wasn't delectable enough, the cherry on top is a housemade whipped cream infused with Cointreau for a bonus boozy kick. Visit: http://www.boultonandwattnyc.com/.
