SUMMER FANCY FOOD SHOW Brings Top Specialty Foods to NYC

The Summer Fancy Food Show at the Jacob Javits Center has just wrapped up with three days of all things food. Demonstrations and tastings were just some of the highlights of the event. Sponsored by the Specialty Food Association, it was an exciting opportunity for trade and media.

Specialty food is now a $127 billion dollar industry. 15% of all retail food sales are is specialty food. Retail sales of specialty food grew 25% since 2014 versus a 2% growth for all foods.

Categories with the highest growth in specialty foods include eggs, refrigerated RTD tea and coffee, jerky and meat snacks, water, shelf-stable RTD tea and coffee and frozen meat alternatives. The top ten categories for retail sales of specialty foods are cheese; frozen and refrigerated meat; poultry and seafood; chips pretzels and snacks; coffee and cocoa; bread and baked goods; chocolate and other confectionary; yogurt and kefir; frozen lunch and dinner entrees; refrigerated lunch and dinner entrees; and condiments, dressings and marinades.
