Restaurant and Food Companies Assist Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey

The restaurant and food industry is taking major steps to assist those affected by the Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. We wanted to share with our readers information about some of the generous contributions being made to help people in need.

In the upcoming days, you can dine out at NYC area restaurants to help lend your support for Hurricane Harvey victims.

Del Frisco's Restaurant Group that includes Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House, Del Frisco's Grille and Sullivan's Steakhouse will donate 20% of all their sales sales through Monday, September 4th to Houston area food banks. Fundraising will occur at the group's New York City locations and across the nation.

Burger & Lobster locations in New York City are donating $1 from every sale of their BBQ Burger, with pulled pork, house made BBQ sauce, homemade pickles and pickled onions. The donation is being made to the American Red Cross fund for Harvey relief in Houston and beyond. The fundraising program at Burger & Lobster will continue through at least mid-September.

In Good Company Hospitality group in New York City includes Park Avenue Tavern, Park & Quinn, Winnies Jazz Bar, Trademark Taste + Grind and Refinery Rooftop. All of the restaurants have a special cocktail for the month of September, a twist on the Harvey Wallbanger. The drink will cost $14 and 100% of the sales will go to Team Rubicon, an organization that unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.

Fogo De Chao, the Brazilian steakhouse with a location in New York City will donate $10.00 for every adult entrée purchased on Monday, September 4th to the Houston Food Bank.

And restaurant corporations, food companies, and grocers are making substantial contributions for Hurricane Harvey relief.

The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (WMMB), funded by the Dairy Farm Families of Wisconsin, coordinated a state-wide effort with Wisconsin cheesemakers to send almost 20,000 pounds of cheese to Houston to provide nutritious food for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Hormel Foods is helping those impacted by Hurricane Harvey through its partnership with Convoy of Hope. In anticipation of hurricane season this year, Hormel Foods partnered with Convoy of Hope to help stock their warehouse with protein-rich products, such as SKIPPY peanut butter, Stagg chili, Hormel premium chicken breast and SPAM products, that could be positioned and distributed immediately for disaster relief efforts. Convoy of Hope sent their disaster services team with these products to help with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and began distribution. The company is also providing support for its employees impacted by the storm through its CARE Program.

SlimFast swiftly organized a two-part 80,000 pound donation to aid in the disaster relief effort. The company is shipping ready-to-drink meal shakes and nutritious 100-calorie snacks. This first full truckload of product is destined for the Houston Food Bank, which will serve those hardest hit by Harvey in the Corpus Christi, Beaumont and Galveston areas.

PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation have announced a significant cash and product donation to support relief and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The company's commitment includes a $1 million grant from the PepsiCo Foundation to the American Red Cross to provide vital resources to hurricane victims across Texas and other impacted communities.

McDonald's Corporation is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross in support of the relief and recovery efforts for families impacted by Hurricane Harvey. In addition, the company announced a $250,000 employee matching program. On the ground, local McDonald's restaurants have been donating thousands of water bottles to the local Red Cross and open McDonald's restaurants in the Houston area are providing free meals to first responders.

Kellogg Company Fund, the charitable arm of Kellogg Company announced a $100,000 donation to support Feeding America and aid the surrounding Gulf Coast region. Kellogg Company will send an additional 30 million servings of product donations to assist Feeding America with its Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Nearly 100 trucks containing donations of Kellogg's cereal, Pringles , Kellogg's Nutri-Grain bars, Cheez-It crackers and Keebler crackers and cookies are being made available for victims and their families..

The Kroger Co. Foundation announced the commitment of $100,000 to the Houston Food Bank, America's largest food bank serving 600 hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties, to supply operational support and meals to families affected by the floods. For every social share of the #KrogerCares Facebook post, the Foundation will donate $5 to the Food Bank, up to $100,000. Additionally, Kroger is inviting customers to join giving efforts by donating through in-store programs.

ALDI announced its donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross and $50,000 to the city of Rosenberg, Texas, to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. In addition, the company is also working with Feeding America to distribute 1,000 disaster relief boxes filled with canned fruits and vegetables, granola bars, peanut butter and utensils.

The Little Caesars Love Kitchen a big-rig pizza kitchen on wheels, is on the road to the hurricane Harvey disaster area to feed victims and first responders affected by the storm and flooding. The truck has traveled throughout the country for almost 30 years providing hot meals to more than three million homeless, hungry and displaced families.

Apio, Inc., a leading provider of Eat Smart branded packaged, fresh vegetables to retail and club stores throughout North America, has donated 24,000 salads, or approximately 70,000 salad servings, to victims of Hurricane Harvey. Eat Smart is partnering with the Houston Food Bank to distribute these salads to those in need.

Texas-based Hardie's Fresh Foods employees took to the streets of Houston this week to support fellow Texans who had to evacuate as a result of Hurricane Harvey. They were among the first to respond by providing 3 truckloads of food to the American Red Cross for evacuees at the George R. Brown Convention Center, local hospitals, hotels, and to first-responders many of whom were personally impacted by flooding.
