At Broadwayworld.com Food and Wine we post a lot of great information about restaurants and bars that have incredible beverage programs. The best advice is to always drink in moderation, but sometimes you overdo.
There are a lot of myths about curing hangovers and some just don't work. The post-party blues occur when your body doesn't react well to alcoholic beverages. With spring and summer outings in the works, here are a few tips to avoid the blahs that can spoil a weekend.
Eat Food. You've heard this one before. Without food, alcohol on an empty stomach can upset your body's systems and the negative effects can be much greater. Plan a healthy, balanced meal before you take a drink.
Hydrate and hydrate some more. Drink plenty of water before you drink alcoholic beverages and after. Alcohol tends to dehydrate the body and that can cause stomach upsets and headaches. Staying hydrated can also reduce the hangover woes. Drink water when you get home and keep a glass by your bed table.
What about coffee? The caffeine in coffee will give your body a charge but coffee is also a beverage that works to dehydrate the body. Most likely, java will not kick a hangover. Too much coffee consumption can also cause a worse headache.
Double Dose? A morning drink may numb you for a while but it won't take away a hangover or make you feel better over the long term. It will probably prolong the pain.
Rest is great medicine. Alcohol consumption can also interrupt a good sleep cycle. If you can, get extra rest to feel better.
Eat, drink and be merry. But every now and then you can get too much of a good thing so keep these tips in mind.
