JEAN LE GOURMAND, the innovative creperie concept by The Blachère Group, who operates the Marie Blachère bakery, has landed at its first NYC outpost in the West Village. Gourmand, meaning one who takes great pleasure in good food and drink, the creperie lives by the philosophy that everyone can be a gourmand whether you are seven or 77 years old. Found in six locations throughout France, New Yorkers won't find a Chef at JEAN LE GOURMAND, but instead a finely-tuned revolutionary machine. This seamless cooking instrument at the creperie was discovered by the team in Brittany, France, a region known for these delicate pastries. Through rigorous testing and small tweaks to the original design, the team produced a custom crepe-making all-star. The machine's speed can be adjusted dependent on the number of customers, making up to 180 an hour, with one made every 20 seconds. At JEAN LE GOURMAND, one will find flawlessly crafted affordable, homemade savory and sweet crepes that don't miss a beat.
Even before entering JEAN LE GOURMAND, guests are greeted by the tantalizing smell of fresh crepes being made with an inviting storefront and a full view of the crepe-making process on display from the outside window. The space is simple and tasteful in design, with a few wooden stools for seating and an open kitchen, where one will be memorized by the machine's grace as it slowly spins.
Made fresh on-premise daily, the crepe batter is crafted using a secret homemade recipe and special blends of flour. The menu at JEAN LE GOURMAND offers an array of flavorful varieties with everything under $10 from a $2 sugar crepe to $8 options like the salmon, guacamole and cheddar. Heartier choices include ham and cheese, chicken and cheese, goat cheese and honey, chicken guacamole and cheddar, and salmon, guacamole and cheddar.
For breakfast lovers, JEAN LE GOURMAND serves up all the quintessential fixings folded neatly into a delicate pastry with offerings such as ham, egg and cheese, bacon, egg and cheese, mushroom, egg and cheese and spinach, mushroom and cheese.
Crowd-pleasing decadent options are also highlighted with choices the Nutella & banana; chocolate & almond, Dulce De Leche, and a trio of fruit fillings like apricot, strawberry or blueberry jam. While bundles of six plain crepes can be purchased at the front counter for a take-away option.
The beverage menu includes brewed coffee and cold brew as well as a variety of soft drinks, ice tea, orange and apple juice.
