There are many good reasons for visiting Bistango at The Kimberly Hotel in the Midtown East neighborhood of New York City. They offer an enticing menu of multi-regional contemporary and traditional Italian cuisine in a stylish, classic setting. There are seating options for small parties and large groups and the service is both friendly and gracious. And the location is especially convenient to the theatre district and shopping areas.
Bistango serves lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. We like that they have a daily lunch prix fixe with two courses for $22.95 and a pre theatre menu daily from 5:00 pm to 6:30 for $35.95. Lunch prix fixe and pre theater specials include two generous courses and a glass of house wine or beer. The menus include many of their house favorites. Bistango also specializes in a wide selection of gluten-free choices that include pastas, breads and more.
The menu has been created by Executive Chef Humberto Corona who hails from Puebla, Mexico. Corona possesses a natural culinary talent and he is completely self-taught. He got his start in Italian cuisine in 2007 working closely with Executive Chef Paul DiBari at Bar Stuzzichini in the Flatiron District. Bistango's menu reflects Corona's talent and knowledge of fine Italian cuisine.
We stopped by on a Sunday night just before attending the theatre and started our meal with a few appetizers. The Aracini rice balls are light and tasty, blended with Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses. Meatballs al Forno is a home style favorite topped with savory tomato sauce. And be sure to have one of their creative salads. We selected the sweet Baby Beets salad over ricotta with toasted pistachios and fresh baby greens. Bistango's Flatbreads, the perfect table share, are thin and crispy. We enjoyed their Wild Mushroom with roasted mushrooms, caramelized shallots, thyme and truffle.
There's a great variety of entrees that include pastas like the Cavatelli with Pat LaFrieda Italian sausage, kale, Calabrian chili and stracciatella or their homemade Fettucini with lobster, cherry tomato Pomodoro and sherry. Principale such as Eggplant Parmesan and Branzino are some of the restaurants most popular main dishes. We loved the tender, flavorful Braised Short Ribs served with a crispy goat cheese polenta. Be sure to indulge in a house made dessert to finish your dinner like their luscious cheesecake.
Explore the beverage program. Cocktails, well selected wine, and beer pair wonderfully with your food selection. Bistango's servers are pleased to help you make the very best selections to complement your meal.
