"Have an Olive Day" is a program launched by Olives from Spain and the European Union to interest consumers in tasty olives that are a ready-to-serve food. Now in its second year, the program also contemplates specific actions for hospitality and catering professionals in the United States.
Olives made in the European Union have a tradition of more than 2,000 years and currently incorporate the most advanced technology. This makes it possible for the Old Continent to be a world leader, both in volume and quality. Among European countries, Spain maintains its first position, with 21% of world production and 30% of exports. In fact, people in the United States market consume more than 165 million pounds of olives each year.
Have an Olive Day is working with one of the best chefs in North America, José Andrés as the inspiration for new gastronomic proposals using olives. The renowned chef, one of the main influencers among American professionals, is a great image to demonstrate how culinary excellence can be achieved using table olives.
With the messages of José Andrés as a backdrop, information has been prepared for professionals in the United States. The hospitality and catering sectors have the possibility of re-discovering olives at events of special interest such as the Summer Fancy Food Show at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. In addition, American media will be a direct witness of the professional potential of olives at presentations in Chicago and Los Angeles as well as in the IFEC, the most important gathering of editors of the USA.
Olives can be found in a variety of formats from small 5 ounce containers to very large 528 pound containers for restaurant professionals. The fruit of the olive tree fits with the growing demand for healthy products as one of the elements of the Mediterranean Diet. They are also vegan friendly. Olives have a shelf life of several months, so it is easy to find stable and affordable prices throughout the year. They should be stored at room temperature, ready for consumption.
