Bar of the Week: CANTINA ROOFTOP in Hell's Kitchen NYC

Cantina Rooftop Restaurant and Lounge defines summer in the city with refreshing cocktails, delicious Mexican cuisine, and a vibrant setting with great views. It will surely become your favorite rooftop spots on the West Side.

We stopped by on a Friday night. Don't plan your visit around the weather. They have a retractable rooftop that can be enclosed for rainy days and fully opened for the bright and beautiful ones. There is always an open, airy atmosphere with terrific views of the city. The festive and fun setting is accented with lush greenery, cozy colorful couches, tables to accommodate parties of all sizes, and several spacious bars.

There's an exciting array of food choices by Executive Chef Gonzalo Colin that includes some of our very favorites. Their empanadas are light and flaky filled with mushrooms and cheese. Guacamole lovers will enjoy their three varieties, Cantina, Ranchero and Tropical. We enjoyed the Tropical selection accented with fresh pineapple, cantaloupe and baby papaya served with crisp tortilla chips. Tacos are served in a group of three and we ordered a house favorite with tender braised pork. Small plates are ideal for sharing and pairing with drinks and Cantina's menu also has options to enjoy a full meal.

The cocktail menu has been created by mixologist, Nelson Lemus with an emphasis on premium tequilas and mezcals. There is an unsurpassed selection of flavored and traditional margaritas along with original Cantina cocktails. We loved one of their specialties, the Sangre de Nopal. It is a refreshing blend of Cazadores Tequila Blanco, prickly pear, St. Germain elderflower, citrus and agave nectar. There are also Mexican classics like the Poloma, Mojito and Michelada. For those that prefer, there's a generous selection of beer and wines. And Cantina Rooftop has Happy Hour specials Monday to Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with drinks specials in the bar and lounge areas.
