Planet Bordeaux, representing Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur AOCs had their third annual Goldmine event on September 23, 2014. The all-day event featured a distinctive opportunity for trade and media to discover the most accessible, affordable and delicious wines that Bordeaux has to offer.
Over 50 wines were tasted including red, white, and rosé. Planet Bordeaux, the U.S. marketing program of the Bordeaux & Bordeaux Supérieur AOCs Winemakers' Association, represents all wines produced in the regional appellations. Planet Bordeaux's new generation of winemakers offer fresh ways for people to rediscover and enjoy high-quality, terroir-driven and accessibly priced wines from Bordeaux, the world's capital of fine wine.
Planet Bordeaux wines include 7 AOC's - Bordeaux Blanc, Bordeaux Supérieur, Bordeaux Supérieur Blanc, Bordeaux Rosé, Bordeaux Clairet, Bordeaux Rouge and Crémant (sparkling) - and represent 52% of the Bordeaux wine region (270 million bottles in 2013). Overall, 13 bottles of Planet Bordeaux are consumed every second worldwide.
Integrated into this year's event was the popular mobile application, Buy Wine Now. The app allows distributors showcasing their wines to easily enter their information in accordance with the layout of the room. The attending buyers and guests search wines, create tasting notes, and purchase them instantaneously.
Michael Madrigale, Head Sommelier of Boulud Sud and Wine Buyer for Boulud Sud, Bar Boulud and Épicerie Boulud, gave food and wine seminars during the event. Well respected in the wine industry, Madrigale has been named by both Food & Wine Magazine and Wine Enthusiast as "Top Sommelier of The Year," and is also a 2014 James Beard Award nominee.
"Bordeaux is one of the greatest terroirs in the world and has been recognized as such for the last millennia. While everyone is aware of the Grand Crus, what is not so common knowledge is that another Bordeaux exists - the fantastic wines from Planet Bordeaux," says Madrigale. "These wines force us to face an undeniable fact: Bordeaux doesn't have to be expensive to be good. The Goldmine event highlights how diverse, high-quality and extraordinarily valued the wines of Bordeaux AOCs and Bordeaux Supérieur can be."
The event took place at Midtown Loft & Terrace located at 267 5th Ave (29th Street) in New York, 11th Floor from 10:00AM - 6:00PM. For more information visit http://planet-bordeaux.com.
