Review: ZAFERON GRILL in Verona NJ for Exceptional Dining

We recently experienced top cuisine in an atmosphere that is designed to relax and refresh. Located in the charming northern New Jersey town of Verona, Zaferon Grill is a unique and stylish restaurant that has been open for just over a year. In that time, their guests keep coming back for fine fare and the impeccable service. It's worth the trip from anywhere.

Owner Soody Nelson has created a very special restaurant. Her casual, yet elegant establishment features savory Mediterranean fusion and fine American cuisine. Zaferon Grill reflects elements of Soody's heritage and her sincere desire to please all of her guests.

The menu includes tapas as starters or for table shares. There's also a tempting selection of entrees. Zaferon Grill is committed to serving organic or hormone and antibiotic free poultry and meat and using fresh, locally grown, organic and sustainable products whenever possible.

We visited early on a Wednesday night for dinner and thoroughly relished our dining experience. Begin your meal with the Mezze Platter with traditional hummus, roasted garlic babaganoush and quinoa tabbouleh with mint. Enjoy good conversation as you savor these fine dips. Other starters include the seasonal Summer Salad, a refreshing, colorful blend of organic‎ field greens, watermelon, mint, walnuts and Feta cheese.

Entrees, beautifully presented, include fresh seafood selections like their Nova Scotia Halibut with chickpeas, confit tomatoes, saffron and escarole. A signature dish is Nana's Favorite Lamb. The saffron-infused braised lamb shank has puréed tomatoes and dried Persian lime with fava beans and dill basmati rice. We ordered one of the "Grilled on a Skewer" selections. Tender, savory marinated chicken is seasoned with yogurt, onion and saffron and served with a vegetable skewer, saffron basmati rice and herbed labne.

Burger buffs will be delighted. Angus Beef, Veggie Burger or Norwegian Salmon Burgers are all creatively garnished and served with your choice of a salad or French Fries.

Don't miss the dessert selection. There are a few customer favorites and we tried one of them. The Dulce De Leche has just the right amount of sweetness. There are other delectable choices too that will top off your meal along with coffee or tea.

Fresh inviting flavors come alive at Zaferon Grille. The restaurant offers a distinctive meal experience with options that will definitely make you want to return. It is a BYOB establishment so bring your favorite beer or wine to pair with your meal.
