There are so many reasons why guests keep coming back to Ben & Jack's Steakhouse in the Midtown East neighborhood of Manhattan. The family-owned and operated restaurant has a stylish modern setting, gracious service, attention to detail, delicious fare, and an outstanding beverage program. Whether you wish to savor traditional steakhouse fare, a light meal, a chef specialty or drinks and small plates at the bar, this is the destination for you. The venue accommodates parties of all sizes from intimate dinners to large group events. We like that it's only a few blocks from Grand Central Station and very close to the United Nations.
Executive Chef Alibasic has curated a menu with unlimited possibilities. We stopped by on a Tuesday night for dinner to enjoy some of our favorites. Their Sesame-Crusted Yellow Fin Tuna with balsamic reduction and wasabi sauce is a creative and delicious appetizer. And their baked clams are some of the best we've ever had, perfectly seasoned and baked to perfection. They also have a great selection of salads, soup, and raw bar choices.
Ben & Jack's menu has only U.S.D.A. Prime steaks, dry aged in their own aging box. We had a Porterhouse for two, cooked to our exact liking and served sizzling at our table. Be sure to use some of their house steak sauce to highlight the flavor of your tender meat. And select some tasty sides to go with your meal. The generous portions are ideal for table shares. We relished the creamy Mac & Cheese, German Potato for Two, and the roasted Brussels Sprouts with pieces of chopped bacon.
Seafood lovers will find many excellent choices to their liking that include the Chilean Sea Bass, Maryland Crab Cakes and the Pan Seared Diver Sea Scallops with White Wine. We have it on good advice that their Rack of Lamb and Rack of Veal are outstanding.
Take some extra time to relax after your dinner with an aperitif, coffee, and dessert. We topped off our meal with a scrumptious Apple Struedel served with vanilla ice cream. Other options include creamy New York style cheesecake, Carrot Cake, Key Lime Pie and more. All are accompanied by their rich whipped cream, called "schlag."
Their extensive beverage program has been expertly planned so that you can easily pair cocktails, spirits, wine or beer with your meal. We opted for a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon Faust from Napa Valley to sip with our dinner. Guests will especially like that the staff is very knowledgeable about the restaurant's food and beverages and are and happy to help you make selections.
If you're in the neighborhood in the afternoon, take advantage of Ben & Jack's luncheon offerings that include a special Prix Fixe meal and check out their evening Happy Hour menu. On Sundays, they feature half price wine selections.
Our readers will like to know that Ben & Jacks will be serving Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner. Dining out on the holiday will allow you to relax as you savor good food and drink and spend time with family and friends. They are also taking reservations for New Year Eve dining.
Visit Ben & Jacks Steakhouse for an extraordinary meal experience. One trip will never be enough. We suggest it will soon become one of your favorite New York City restaurants.
