On the corner of East Houston and Clinton Street is Ariel's Latin Bistro, where trendy New York meets history. Owned by Lower East Side local, Ariel Mendez, the restaurant offers a distinctive blend of delicious Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine. Mendez grew up with authentic home-cooked Latin meals and he wanted to open a neighborhood restaurant featuring the recipes his mom made.

The restaurant's colorful, industrial-inspired decor has jet-black chandeliers hanging over the spacious bar. In the warm months, they open their giant windows creating an al fresco style atmosphere. The service is prompt, friendly and very helpful.

Not only is the cuisine delightful, but Ariel's has an excellent beverage program. Our server, Marlyn told us that she mixes her cocktails "with love" and it shows. We enjoyed their Red Sangria and one of their house specialty drinks, the "Sol Y Beso" with passion fruit infused Solbeso liquor, St. Germain, orange bitters and pineapple. Or choose from perfectly crafted traditional choices like their Pina Colada, Classic Mojito or Dark 'n Stormy. There's also a nice selection of beer, wine and "Virgin Refreshments."

Ariel's updated spring and summer menu has something for everyone. It includes familiar tapas selections like croquettes, empanadas, and ceviche joined by a handful of hearty entrees like Ariel's "Arroz con Pollo y Camarones." And there are house favorites like their "Cubano Sandwich" that's Ariel's take on the classic sandwich using a secret family recipe. We enjoyed a great table share, "The Chicken Chicharrones" that are boneless chicken chunks in a garlic and lemon sauce. Their "Avocado Salad" is garnished with a delightful house mojo dressing. Indulge in the "El Chapo's Churrasco," their incredibly tender grilled skirt steak served with truffle fries. We'll be back for Ariel's "Nachos Supreme" and "Paella Party."

Ariel Mendez also likes to combine his two passions food and music for his guests. Plan a late-night outing to Ariel's and enjoy a blend of Latin Music, New York classics and popular tracks while you savor good food and tropical drinks.

Ariel's is one of the best-kept secrets in New York City. Take a trip down to the "LOISAIDA" (the Spanish term for the Lower East Side). Experience authentic Latin flavors in one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city.

Ariel's Latin Bistro is located at 293 E. Houston Street (on the corner of Clinton Street). The restaurant accepts both reservations and walk-ins. For reservations please call 212.982.3222 and visit their web site at: http://arielsnyc.com/.
