Last night Primary Stages, in association with Ted Snowdon presented On That Day in Amsterdam at 59E59 Theaters. Previews began on July 23 with a limited run through September 4, 2022.  Check out the Opening Night photos here!

Isaac Mizrahi opened his four-night run at 54 Below last night.  It seems the Fashion District and the Theater District have much in common as Isaac’s presentation last was a welcome addition to midtown and Broadway’s supper club.  

Bond 45 as the name implies used to be on 45th street, it’s now on 46th street, but the music heard last night at this theater district restaurant was reminiscent of 52nd street, site of the original Birdland. See photos below!

Errico has been conquering the scene lately singing all kinds of music from from noir to show tunes to classic soprano fare and is now starting to work with symphonies and she and Stritch have undeniable “chemistry”, making this look like they’ll be teaming up for a while, if the audience has anything to say about it!

Being at a John Pizzarelli performance at Birdland is like having your best friend, who also happens to be a world class jazz guitarist/singer plus one of the funniest guys on the planet, entertain in your living room.   You never want an evening with John to end. His extraordinary musicianship, song selection, and conversation create one of the most entertaining jazz shows you’ll ever experience.

A unique pairing of instruments played up a storm this week at Birdland Theater.

You can select from the specially designed gourmet menu for the Diamond Series at Feinstein’s/54 Below, but the real treat was being able to select your favorite tune from the Broadway songbook and have Brian Stokes Mitchell include it in his show.

Last night Stella Katherine Cole, Luke Hawkins, Jason Graae, Pedro Coppeti, Ashley Ryan and Lee Roy Reams performed in Scott Siegel’s 'Hit Songs From Broadway’s Great Revivals.'

I don’t know if Peggy Lee ever performed in Del Ray Beach but last night Ann Hampton Callaway masterly brought the music and life of the sultry-voiced Jazz singer of ‘Fever’ to a packed audience in the Arts Garage.  The patrons were in for an added treat as Ann, who is also a gifted pianist accompanied herself for this engagement.

 KT Sullivan, Artistic Director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation hosted the finals of The 5th Adela & Larry Elow American Songbook High School Competition yesterday in the Laurie Beechman Theater at The West Bank Cafe. The competition prize money was endowed by Board Members Adela and Larry Elow to encourage teenagers to learn and perform The Great American Songbook, which was composed between the years 1900-1970.

Even though they are not related, there must be a common music DNA molecule that exists in George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Billy Joel, that was also passed on to Jason Robert Brown. His performance last night at Feinstein’s/54 Below encompassed some of the creative talents of all of those musical giants. Jason Robert Brown, the composer, the arranger,  the lyricist, the pianist, and the singer, was on the stage of Feinstein’s/54 Below with nine (yes, nine) great musicians, plus vocalists Anastasia Talley and Cheeyang Ng. 

59E59 Theaters is presenting New Golden Age by Karen Hartman, part of the inaugural VOLT Festival at 59E59. Presented by Primary Stages and directed by Jade King Carroll (Proof of Love), New Golden Age opened May 11 for a run through June 9, 2022.

Ken Page needs to move back to New York City- IMMEDIATELY!  It’s an emergency and we need him now, every single day!  People often say things like, “blew the roof off the place” but, last night, truer words could not have been spoken as the theatre legend and gifted vocalist debuted a show called, “KEN PAGE: There’s So Much To Talk About”…(And Sing About, Too!). 

In a time when the people that live on our planet can’t seem to agree on anything, being in a room where everyone was on the same page celebrating the importance and brilliance of American Popular Music and honoring some of it’s most talented artists was truly a joy.  

Anne Steele debuted her latest show, THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN, last night, at The Green Room 42, here in New York City. The show is aptly named, as it was a very personal song list and displayed the lady’s talents handsomely. 

The Countess Luann de Lesseps, arguably the most popular cast member of THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW YORK CITY reality series in the BRAVO franchise, was on fire last night at Feinstein’s/54 Below.

Bob Merrill is usually spinning albums and interviewing celebrities on Legends Radio but last night he left the studio and “Legends After Dark” to hear the Great American Songbook live and in person at the Pelican Cabaret.
