One of Rhode Island's favorite comics, Bill Simas, will be returning to the Comix stage on Friday, February 8 at 10:30 p.m. to headline another performance at New England's comedy spot: Comix At Foxwoods. Simas will be accompanied by New York City comedy guru, Mark DeMayo.

Thugs the Musical, a musical film starring comedian Kevin Avery, Tony Award nominee David Alan Grier, Margaret Cho and Wu Tang Clan's Prodigal Sunn, will receive a one-night-only New York City screening on Saturday, December 15, 2012 as part of the New York No Limits 2012 Film Summit.

On Friday, December 14 at 8:30pm, Red Tape Theatre presents Bizarre Bazaar: A Holiday Special, curated by Philip Elson, Melissa Ganser & Cristina Tadeo. Bizarre Bazaar is an evening of dance, theater, music, and improvisation with traditional treats and drinks. The Midtown Men, original cast members from Broadway's Jersey Boys, recently collaborated with writer and musician Stevie Van Zandt to record a new version of Van Zandt's 'All Alone on Christmas.' Special seats have been reserved for hearing-impaired audience members who would like an optimal view of the digital screen.

Rembrandt and the Dutch Golden Age: Highlights from the Detroit Institute of Arts will open at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts on February 1, 2013. Drawn entirely from the superb collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts, this exhibition presents works of the great Dutch masters including Frans Hals, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jacob van Ruisdael and Jan Steen, along with related decorative arts. Rembrandt and the Dutch Golden Age will remain on view in the Frist Center's Ingram Gallery through May 19, 2013.

For over 45 years, Musica Sacra has held annual performances of Handel's Messiah. On Thursday, December 20, and Sunday, December 23, both at 8 pm at Carnegie Hall, Musica Sacra performs Handel's masterpiece once again with music director Kent Tritle conducting the Musica Sacra Chorus and Orchestra and vocal soloists Kathryn Lewek, soprano, Kirsten Sollek, mezzo-soprano, Nicholas Phan, tenor, and Matt Boehler, bass.

Continuing its mission to showcase the best of the Chicago storefront scene, Rogers Park-based The Side Project continues their 2012-13 season with new plays by three high-profile Chicago artists: Sean Graney (Sugarward, opening January 5), Robert Tenges (Elsewhere, opening March 24), and nationally renowned poet, Sherod Santos (Lives of the Pigeons, opening June 1).

Pride Films and Plays has just announced the Chicago 20th anniversary production of Jonathan Harvey's acclaimed Beautiful Thing, the story of two teenaged boys coming to grips with their sexuality. Director John Nasca directs a cast that includes Robert Hilliard, Michelle McKenzie-Voigt, Kiah McKirnan, Patrick Rybarczyk, and Charlie Wein.

Singer Frank Dain will reprise The Magic of Mathis in December with two performances at Don't Tell Mama on December 8th and 15th at 6pm. This show was recently nominated for a BroadwayWorld.com Award in Best Tribute Show category. The Magic of Mathis brings new interpretations to many favorite songs.

On the heels of the recent Marvel purchase by Disney, the franchise has hired James Gunn to direct its upcoming superhero film, Guardians of the Galaxy, and has reportedly started the casting search for the half-alien protagonist, Peter Quill.

Yale School of Drama (James Bundy, Dean; Victoria Nolan, Deputy Dean) presents SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, music and lyrics by Steven Sondheim, book by James Lapine, and directed by Ethan Heard, December 14 to December 20 at the University Theatre (222 York Street). Performances are Friday-Thursday at 8pm.

Lyric Opera of Chicago just announced its 70-minute opera adventure created especially for kids ages 5-12 and their families, called, Popcorn & Pasquale. This show, written by David Kersnar (Lookingglass Theater Company) and Jacqui Russell (Chicago Children's Theater), takes place at the Civic Opera House on Sunday, December 2 at 2pm.

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will celebrate Christmas with three special performances, starting with a concert of classic Christmas music by the legendary guitar quartet The Romeros with Massimo Paris and Concerto Malaga on Friday, Dec. 7. Cult filmmaker John Waters will perform his adults-only Christmas extravaganza on Saturday, Dec. 8, and, returning by popular demand, Patti Hannon will star in Sister's Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi's Gold for a limited engagement Dec. 18-23.
