BroadwayWorld has learned that Sting's new stage musical, THE LAST SHIP, which has been on track to come to Broadway before making a transfer to the UK's West End, has been postponed. A staged reading, which was to be casted this week, was originally scheduled to take place April 9-21, with direction by Joe Mantello.

Sir Tim Rice, lyricist for the upcoming Broadway revivals of Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar - both written with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber - as well as New York's long-running The Lion King, returns to THEATER TALK for an all-new interview premiering Friday, March 23 (2012) at 1 a.m. on Thirteen, followed by airings on CUNY TV Saturday (3/24; 8:30 PM), Sunday (3/25; 12:30 PM) and Monday (3/26; 7:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 7:30 PM).

Blume and new Drama Desk Awards Executive Producer Gretchen Shugart, Nominating Committee Chairperson Barbara Siegel and Randie Levine-Miller, Drama Desk Director of Special Events, who annually produces this event.

BASE Entertainment has just announced that DINER, a new musical based on the critically acclaimed 1982 film with a book by Academy Award winner and original DINER screenwriter Barry Levinson and music & lyrics by 9-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, will have its pre-Broadway world premiere at San Francisco's SHN Curran Theatre (445 Geary Street). Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall, DINER will play a strictly limited four week engagement from Tuesday, October 23, 2012, through Sunday, November 18, 2012, with an opening night of Friday, November 2, 2012. Due to these confirmed San Francisco dates DINER will now bow on Broadway in the spring of 2013, instead of the fall of 2012 as previously announced. Design team and casting will be announced at a later date.

Karen (Katharine McPhee) had to decide between the workshop and a meeting with a big-time music producer. Today in 2011, Priscilla Queen of the Desert opened at the Palace Theatre, wehre it is still running (currently 415 performances). Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a musical with a book by Australian film director-writer Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott, using well-known pop songs as its score. Adapted from Elliott's 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the musical tells the story of two drag queens and a transsexual, who contract to perform a drag show at a resort in Alice Springs, a resort town in the remote Australian desert. The original Broadway cast includes Will Swenson as Tick (Mitzi), Tony Sheldon, again, reprising his role of Bernadette, and Nick Adams as Adam (Felicia).

Next week on SMASH, the team deals with the aftermath of the workshop. Ivy (Megan Hilty) remains in the dark about her fate, while Derek (Jack Davenport) recruits Karen (Katharine McPhee) to help him steal the musical from Tom and Julia (Christian Borle and Debra Messing). Eileen (Anjelica Huston) must face up to her ex-husband, Jerry (guest star Michael Cristofer), when their daughter Katie (guest star Grace Gummer) pays a surprise visit from India. The cast of ABC's hit drama GREY'S ANATOMY last night gathered to perform 'Grey's Anatomy: The Songs Beneath the Show,' a live musical celebration to benefit The Actors Fund, at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. Participants included: Jessica Capshaw, Justin Chambers, Eric Dane, Sarah Drew, Chyler Leigh, Kevin McKidd, Sandra Oh, Jim Pickens, Jr., Sara Ramirez, Kim Raver and Chandra Wilson. ABC Family has given the greenlight to the new drama series BUNHEADS, which s set to premiere on June 11. Executive-produced by Amy Sherman-Palladino ('Gilmore Girls') and headlined by Tony Award-winning actor Sutton Foster, BUNHEADS is the tale of a Las Vegas showgirl who impulsively marries a man, moves to his sleepy coastal town, and takes an uneasy role at her new mother-in-law's dance school. Theater for the New City will present Charles Busch's new comedy JUDITH OF BETHULIA.
