Cory Michael Smith (The Whale, Cock) will star as the 'Fred' to Emilia Clarke's (HBO's "Game of Thrones") 'Holly Golightly' in the world premiere of Tony Award winning playwright Richard Greenberg's new play, Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, it was announced today. It was also announced that this new stage adaption of Capote's classic novella, directed by Sean Mathias, will begin performances at Broadway's Cort Theatre on Monday, March 4 and officially open on Wednesday, March 20.

WORKING, from the book by Studs Terkel, is adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, with additional contributions by Gordon Greenberg. Songs are by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers & Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz, and James Taylor. Directed by Gordon Greenberg and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, Prospect Theatre Company's WORKING began performances on Saturday, December 1 for a limited engagement through Sunday, December 30. On November 26th, BroadwayUnderstudies.com invited some of Broadway's most talented understudies to the stage of the Laurie Beechman Theatre to share their rare talent-the ability to perform at a second's notice. They were thrown into the fire in 'Half Hour 2: A Last Minute Concert,' a show where even they don't know what they'll be singing before they step up to the microphone. Today in 1989, City of Angels opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 879 performances. City of Angels is a musical comedy with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel, and book by Larry Gelbart. The musical weaves together two plots, the 'real' world of a writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay, and the 'reel' world of the fictional film. The musical is an homage to the film noir genre of motion pictures that rose to prominence in the 1940s. It was directed by Michael Blakemore with sets designed by Robin Wagner and costumes by Florence Klotz.

Today in 2006, Spring Awakening opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 859 performances. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the controversial German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for some time due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Set in late-19th century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score.The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards, including Tonys for Best Musical, Direction, Book, Score and Featured Actor. The production also garnered 4 Drama Desk Awards whilst its original cast album received a Grammy Award.

Lincoln Center Theater's 75th Anniversary production of the Clifford Odets classic Golden Boy, directed by Bartlett Sher, opened last night at the Belasco Theatre (111 West 44 Street), the same theatre where the play premiered in 1937. With Michael Reidel serving as host, the presenters this year include Frederic Franklin, CBE, Paloma Herrera, and Maya Johansen (Bernes).The Clive Barnes Foundation have previously announced the nominees for the 2012 Clive Barnes Awards, a distinguished annual honor recognizing the work of young actors and dancers in New York City. This years' nominees for theatre are Joaquina Kalukango for her performance in Signature Theatre Company's production of Katori Hall's Hurt Village, Derek Klena for his performance in Second Stage Theatre's production of Dogfight, directed by Joe Mantello, Rob McClure for his performance in Chaplin, now in performances at the Barrymore Theatre, and Stephen Tyrone Williams for his performance in Signature Theatre Company's production of Athol Fugard's My Children, My Africa. For dance, the nominees are Lauren Lovette (New York City Ballet), Steven Melendez (New York Theater Ballet), and Ashley Murphy (Dance Theater of Harlem).
