Primary Stages presents the World Premiere of Bronx Bombers, written and directed by Tony Award nominee Eric Simonson (Broadway's Lombardi). Happy Birthday Marin Mazzie! Marin most recently starred in the off-Broadway revival of Carrie. Before that she led the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Next to Normal and in the Broadway production of Enron. She received Tony and Drama Desk nominations and an Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance as Lilli/Katharine in the hit revival of Kiss Me, Kate, and later received an Olivier Award nomination when she made her West End debut in the show. Other Broadway credits include: Monty Python's Spamalot (also West End), Ragtime (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics nominations), Passion (Tony nomination), Man of La Mancha, Into the Woods, Big River, and Out of this World and Kismet (Encores!).

Last night, October 7, Broadway ledgend Chita Rivera returned to the stage in Chita: A Legendary Celebration, which was produced by and benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The evening featured the Tony Award-winning Rivera, accompanied by an onstage orchestra, revisiting songs from her pantheon of Broadway hits, including Kander & Ebb's Chicago and Kiss of the Spider Woman, West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie and other surprises. Today in 1946, Cyrano de Bergerac opened at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre), where it ran for 193 performances. Cyrano de Bergerac is a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand. Although there was a real Cyrano de Bergerac, the play bears a very scant resemblance to his life. The entire play is written in verse, in rhyming couplets of 12 syllables per line, very close to the Alexandrine format, but the verses sometimes lack a caesura. Notable English-speaking Cyranos include Ralph Richardson, DeVeren Bookwalter, Derek Jacobi, Richard Chamberlain, and Christopher Plummer, who played the part in Rostand's original play and won a Tony Award for the 1973 musical adaptation. Kevin Kline played the role in a Broadway production in 2007. The play is currently in previews at the American Airlines Theatre, starring Douglas Hodge in the title role.

Tony Award-winning Broadway actress Alice Ripley (Next to Normal) leads the cast of CARRIE the musical, October 11-26, 2013, at the historic Moore Theatre, also featuring fellow Broadway alumni Kendra Kassebaum (Wicked) andKeaton Whittaker (A Little Night Music), and directed by Broadway alum Louis Hobson (Next to Normal). Just last week, the cast of Big Fish on Broadway shared a supportive message for the cast of the Ole Miss production of THE LARAMIE PROJECT, which made national news this week after a group of football players interrupted the show with homophobic slurs and 'borderline hate speech' on October 1st. Now the cast has responded to the support with a thank you to the cast of BIG FISH. Check it out below!

Happy Birthday, Alfred Drake! He is best known for his leading roles in the original Broadway productions of Oklahoma!; Kiss Me, Kate; Kismet; and for playing Marshall Blackstone in the original production of Babes in Arms, (in which he sang the title song) and Hajj in Kismet, for which he received the Tony Award. His 1964 stage performance as Claudius in the Richard Burton Hamlet was filmed live on the stage of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. His final stage appearance in a musical was in 1973 as Honore LaChaisse in Lerner and Loewe's Gigi. Two years later he starred in a revival of The Skin of Our Teeth.

Today CEC is shining our spotlight on long-time writing partners Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk. Their song 'Last Week's Alcohol' was performed by Matt Doyle, talented star of stage and screen, at our concert at the Canal Room. We are thrilled to share it with all of you on Broadwayworld!

"Matilda," "Newsies" and "West Side Story" actor/dancer Ryan Steele stars in the latest edition of the new video series #ShareTheMattress that features creative artists dancing and playing on their beds. Steele is the star of the new film Five Dances, which comes out today, and was the official selection of the Seattle International Film Festival 2013 and Jacob's Pillow's Dance Festival 2013. A prolific actor and dancer in both film and theater, Steele has established himself as a prominent rising actor on Broadway and in Hollywood.

Performers from three upcoming concerts at 54 Below, including THE LAST 5 YEARS IN CONCERT (10/16-19), PRINCESSES THE MUSICAL, A CLASS REUNION (10/21), and SIN TWISTERS (10/9) recently met the press for a special performance preview. BroadwayWorld brings you highlights from the festivities below!

The original cast of the York Theatre Company 2012 revival production of the classic Off-Broadway hit musical Closer Than Ever just renuited for the official New York release of the new cast recording on the Jay Record Label. The cast, joined by music director Andrew Gerle and David Shire, performed selections from the 2-CD recording at Barnes & Noble, and BroadwayWorld was there for the special event.
