HBO has confirmed the debut date for BILLY CRYSTAL 700 SUNDAYS, with the special slated to premiere on Saturday, April 19 (9:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT). 700 SUNDAYS is an original two-act play in which Billy plays numerous characters that have influenced who he is today. It deals with his youth, growing up in the jazz world of Manhattan, his teenage years, and finally adulthood. It is about family and fate, loving and loss. HBO has just released a full trailer fir its highly anticipated upcoming presentation of THE NORMAL HEART, which will air on Sunday, May 25, at 9pm on HBO. It's Good Friday, and what better way to reflect on Jesus' death than with musical theatre? In the vintage video below, Broadway favorite and Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda performs Jesus' Act II ballad, 'Gethsemane' in his college production of Jesus Christ Superstar. He writes: 'played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar my freshman year at Wesleyan. I was not yet done with puberty. Screaming ensues.'

The new Broadway production of Of Mice and Men has officially arrived on Broadway! FeaturingJames Franco, Chris O'Dowd, and Leighton Meester, and with direction by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro, the show just opened last night, April 16, 2014 at the Longacre Theatre. Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of Fly By Night: A New Musical, conceived byKim Rosenstock (Tigers Be Still), written by Will Connolly (performer, Once), Michael Mitnick (Sex Lives of Our Parents, the upcoming film The Giver) and Ms. Rosenstock, and directed by Carolyn Cantor (The Great God Pan and After the Revolution at PH, Pumpgirl, Orange Flower Water). Today in 2010, American Idiot opened at the St. James Theatre, where it ran for 422 performances. American Idiot is a one-act, through-sung stage musical. The show is an adaptation of punk rock band Green Day's concept album of the same name. The story, expanded from that of the concept album, centers on three disaffected young men, Johnny, Will, and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny flee stifling suburbia and their parents' restrictions. American Idiot won two 2010 Tony Awards: Best Scenic Design of a Musical for Christine Jones, and Best Lighting Design of a Musical for Kevin Adams. It also received a nomination for Best Musical. On February 13, 2011, it won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Today in 2001, The Producers opened at the St. James Theatre, where it ran for 2502 performances. The Producers is a musical adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks' 1968 film of the same name, with lyrics written by Brooks and music composed by Brooks and arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman. As in the film, the story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, it won a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards. It spawned a successful London production running for three years, national tours, many productions worldwide and a 2005 film version.

Today in 2002, Thoroughly Modern Millie opened at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 903 performances. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan. Based on the 1967 film of the same name, it tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love - a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. The production subsequently won six 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Sutton Foster.

Today in 2008, A Catered Affair opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre, where it ran for 116 performances. A Catered Affair is a musical with a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by John Bucchino. It is based on both the 1956 film The Catered Affair written by Gore Vidal and the original 1955 teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, set in 1953 in the Bronx. John Doyle directed the production, which starred Fierstein, Faith Prince and Tom Wopat.

Broadway favorite Valerie Harper has some wonderful news to share with her adoring fans.

Kristin Chenoweth today revealed on 'The Wendy Williams Show' that she'll soon be returning to Broadway. The performer also talked about her boyfriend meeting the parents and the surprising inspiration for the new hair style she's working toward. With an upcoming concert at Carnegie Hall, Kristin also teased the audience with the revelation that she has plans in the works to return to Broadway. 'Soon there's going to be an announcement. But within the year I'll be back on Broadway.'

Now in previews, The Velocity of Autumn is a 90-minute powder keg dark comedy by Eric Coble that stars Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons (Bonnie and Clyde, 'Roseanne') and two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Spinella (Angels in America, Lincoln, '24'), is directed by Molly Smith and will open Monday, April 21, 2014. This limited Broadway engagement of The Velocity of Autumn follows a sold-out, critically acclaimed run at Washington DC's Arena Stage (Edgar Dobie, Executive Producer) in the fall of 2013. TUTS Underground will present the sizzling and explosive musical Murder Ballad. The steamy quartet of actors includes Steel Burkhardt, Pat McRoberts, Lauren Molina and Kristin Warren. Today in 2000, the second Broadway revival of Jesus Christ Superstar opened at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts (now the Foxwoods Theatre), where it ran for 161 performances. Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Tim Rice. The musical started off as a rock opera concept recording before its first staging on Broadway in 1971. The musical is based very loosely on the Gospels' account of the last week of Jesus' life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem, and ending with the crucifixion. The third Broadway revival is currently playing at the Neil Simon Theatre.

It's hard to believe that it has been 20 years since Roslyn Kind has appeared in a nightclub in New York City. Back in the day, she played 'em all, including the Continental Baths (yes, Bette Midler was not the only singer to play the famed location).
