Today in 2006, the first Broadway revival of A Chorus Line opened at the Schoenfeld Theatre, where it ran for 759 performances. A Chorus Line is a musical about Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The book was authored by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. With nineteen main characters, it is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. The show provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. The original Broadway production received 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The Hamilton cast album has been out in the world for about a week and the company of the hit musical is planning to celebrate. On October 16 (3:30 PM), Lin-Manuel Miranda will take audience questions then be joined by cast members to sign the original Broadway cast recording at the Upper East Side Barnes & Noble (150 East 86th Street).

Last night, Thursday October 1, Samuel French, the world's largest publisher and licensor of stage plays and musicals, in collaboration with HowlRound, presented Sing and Tell: A Benefit Concert for the Dramatists Guild Fund at Feinstein's/54 Below.

Broadway rockers Justin Guarini, Deborah Cox, Alex Brightman, and Tony Vincent, are set to rock out at Clear Channel Spectacolor's annual 'Celebrity Karaoke: A Epic Evening with the Stars' on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at Hard Rock Cafe New York in Times Square (1501 Broadway). Hosted and co-produced by Guarini, 'Celebrity Karaoke' will kick off New York Comic Con's New York Super Week and gives fans the opportunity to perform with a live karaoke band alongside Broadway's brightest stars.

Understudies are the unsung heroes and the backbone of the theatre industry - and actress/singer Ceili O'Connor is a quintessential and literal unsung hero, having understudied in various productions for five years without ever actually having the opportunity to go on in the lead roles she has covered. Most recently, at the Arts Theatre's studio space, Above The Arts, she finally got the chance to showcase her talent in her own solo cabaret, The Understudy - Waiting In The Wings.

Happy Birthday, Liev Screiber! Schreiber's performance as Ricky Roma in the 2005 Broadway revival of David Mamet's 'Glengarry Glen Ross', directed by Joe Mantello, earned him his first Tony Award. He was again a Tony nominee for his portrayal of Barry Champlain in the 2007 Broadway revival of Eric Bogosian's 'Talk Radio', directed by Robert Falls, Other stage work includes The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park production of 'Macbeth', in the lead role opposite Jennifer Ehle, directed by Moises Kaufman; 'Iago'; 'Hamlet'; 'Henry the V'; and 'Cymbeline'.

Today in 2003, Little Shop of Horrors opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 372 performances. Little Shop of Horrors is a comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman. The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, 'Skid Row (Downtown)', 'Somewhere That's Green', and 'Suddenly, Seymour'.

Happy Birthday, Julie Andrews! Andrews made her Broadway debut in 1954 with The Boy Friend, and rose to prominence starring in other musicals such as My Fair Lady and Camelot, and in musical films such as Mary Poppins (1964), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, and The Sound of Music (1965). She has starred in films such as The Princess Diaries (2001), its sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), the Shrek animated films (2004-2010), and Despicable Me (2010).

On Sunday, September 27, thousands of Broadway's biggest fans gathered at Pier 97 for what's being called the Coachella of show tunes - the first annual Elsie Fest, a day-long music festival celebrating songs from the stage and screen. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you highlights from the big day!

Broadway's Allegiance, a new musical inspired by Takei's true-life story, opens on November 8, 2015 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). Previews begin October 6. It features a book by Marc Acito and music and lyrics by Jay Kuo. Olivier Award nominee Stafford Arima (London's Ragtime, Off-Broadway's Bare, Carrie, Altar Boyz) directs. Happy Birthday, Stark Sands! In 2007, Sands received a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in the Broadway revival of Journey's End. Additional theater credits include the 2009 musical adaptation of Bonnie & Clyde at the La Jolla Playhouse, The Classic Stage Company's production of The Tempestwhich earned him the Actors' Equity Foundation's St. Clair Bayfield Award, which honors the best performance by an actor in a Shakespearean play in the New York metropolitan area. From June 25 to July 12, 2009, Sands appeared in the Shakespeare in the Park's production of Twelfth Night, featuring Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald and Raul Esparza. Sands played the role of Tunny in the Broadway production of American Idiot. Most recently, Sand received a Tony nomination for playing Charlie Price, in the musical Kinky Boots, which opened on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013.

Career Transition For Dancers just held its 30TH ANNIVERSARY PEARL JUBILEE: A STAR-STUDDED RETROSPECTIVE last night, September 28.As a part of the festivities, Robert Fairchild, a New York City Ballet principal and the award-winning star of 'An American In Paris' performed 'A Tribute To Gene Kelly.' Deaf West Theatre's acclaimed production of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's SPRING AWAKENING, directed by Michael Arden and choreographed by Spencer Liff, opened on Sunday night, September 27, at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). SPRING AWAKENING's strictly limited 18-week-only engagement started previews on September 8. Broadway fans celebrated the 29th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction by bidding on and buying everything from tickets to a bevy of opening night performances to custom-made music mixes, from autographed musical phrases to once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experiences. The result: a record $756,655 was raised for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The cast of new musical DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, which opened on April 21st and closed on May 10th, 2015 at the Broadway Theatre, hit the recording studio this spring to prepare for the release of the show's original cast recording, which is now available via Broadway Records HERE.
