Berkeley Rep Presents THE GREAT GAME: AFGHANISTAN, 10/22August 30, 2010This fall, Berkeley Repertory Theatre welcomes THE GREAT GAME: AFGHANISTAN, a sweeping cycle of short scripts by 12 top playwrights that caused a sensation in London. Presented in three parts - on different days or in one impassioned marathon - this unprecedented show explores Afghanistan over the last 150 years. Produced with the Tricycle Theatre and supported by the British Council, THE GREAT GAME makes its West Coast premiere in the Roda Theatre. This limited run begins October 22 and must end November 7. The executive producers for this exclusive two-week engagement are Bill Falik and Diana Cohen and the Strauch Kuhlanjian Family. Meanwhile, the Tricycle - which has gained renown in Britain for presenting plays that examine contemporary issues and investigate cultural diversity - is hosting Berkeley Rep's production of Tiny Kushner.
Theater Works Presents INTO THE WOODS Thru 9/12August 30, 2010This brilliant musical by the great contemporary composer Stephen Sondheim re-tells the fairy tale stories of the Brothers Grimm - a princess who must run at midnight and loses her shoe, the childless couple that must lift a curse by an evil witch, a boy and his beanstalk, and that little girl in the red cloak on her way to grandmother's house - in a musical that explores both the whimsy of wishing and the darker side of the forest.

Attendance Surges for 15th Annual Festival Latino in AugustAugust 30, 2010The 15th annual Festival Latino saw a surge in attendance this year when it returned to Genoa Park on August 14 and 15. In its second year being produced by CAPA, the Festival hosted 35,000 over the two-day, free event featuring national and Ohio-based Latin-American music acts, dancing, artists, food, and children's' activities. Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-nominated Jerry Rivera, a world-renowned Puerto Rican salsa singer, drew 10,000 to his Sunday evening performance.
