Byham Theatre Celebrates Black History Month with Ladysmith Black Mambazo 2/28February 16, 2010The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust culminates Black History Month with its regular Showcase Noir: African American Artist and Designer Exhibit and Sale and the special presentation of Grammy-award-winning South African a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Showcase Noir opens at 11am on Sunday, February 28, in the Byham Theater lobby. Ladysmith Black Mambazo performance closes the evening with their 7 p.m. performance in the theater. Tony Award Winner Faith Prince Returns to OCPAC Cabaret Series 4/8-4/11February 11, 2010Tony Award winner Faith Prince returns to the Center to close the 2009-10 Cabaret Series April 8 - 11 in Samueli Theater. Prince has been dazzling Broadway audiences since she swept the theater awards, winning the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance as Ms. Adelaide in the critically-acclaimed revival of Guys and Dolls. In 2008, she was nominated for Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for A Catered Affair. This is Prince's second visit to the Center, following her debut here in February 2008. She replaces Paulo Szot who is unable to appear due to his extended run in South Pacific at Lincoln Center.
CAPA and OSU Present A SONG FOR CORETTA at Lincoln Theatre March 5-7February 11, 2010Produced by CAPA and the OSU Department of Theatre, Pearl Cleage's A Song for Coretta will play the Lincoln Theatre (21 E. Main St.) March 5-7. Inspired by the long line of mourners at Ebenezer Baptist Church paying their respects to Mrs. Coretta Scott King, this play introduces five fictional African-American women, aged 17 to 57, who find laughter and hope while waiting in the rain to say goodbye. A Song For Coretta explores the impact Mrs. King had on the lives of these women, and the connections they build with one another through her memory and legacy.

Vistors can learn about ballistic tongues of chameleons, how a basilisk escapes from predators by running across water, amazing camouflage of Madagascar geckos, the 3-D thermal vision of rattlesnakes and boas, spitting cobra fangs, blood-squirting Horned Lizards, flying snakes and lizards, and other gravity-defying squamates.
Kweskin Theatre Presents Reading of BUDDY'S TAVERN 2/22February 11, 2010The authors of the new musical 'Buddy's Tavern,' winner of Curtain Call's 2010 American Harmony Prize, are going to have to clear a little more room on their mantles. Yesterday, it was announced that 'Buddy's Tavern' has also been named by the Acardemy of Arts and Letters as the winner of the 2010 Richard Rodgers Award, one of the most prestigious honors given to developing works of musical theater. In addition to recognition, the Richard Rodgers Award carries with it funding for reading and productions of the winner musical. 'Buddy's Tavern' was written by Raymond DeFelitta, Alison Louise Hubbard and Kim Oler. A concert reading of songs and scenes from the show will be presented at Curtain Call's next Musical Mondays evening, scheduled for Monday, February 22, starring Broadway performer Michael Iannucci (Fiddler on the Roof) in the title role.
