The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) and African Film Festival, Inc. (AFF) celebrate the silver anniversary of the New York African Film Festival at FSLC from May 16 to 22. Under the theme “25 Years of the New York African Film Festival,” the international film organizations will pay homage to the pioneers of African cinema while marking the passing of the baton to a new generation of African visual storytellers who continue to transform and expand our understanding of the continent and its diaspora. The event also commemorates the 100th birthday of the venerated South African freedom fighter and national leader Nelson Mandela, with a crop of films from his native land. The month-long festival brings 66 films from 25 countries to FSLC, the Brooklyn Academy of Music's BAMcinématek, and Maysles Cinema in Harlem.

NYC Media, the official broadcast network and media production entity of the City of New York, is pleased to announce two original shows, Blueprint: New York City and Bare Feet in NYC with Mickela Mallozzi, won 2018 Emmy® Awards at the 61st Annual New York Emmy® Awards on Saturday, April 14 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Blueprint: New York City won the Best Documentary award for its episode on the New York City Municipal Building, while the Best Narrator award went to Bare Feet in NYCand host Mickela Mallozzi. Tanya's heritage is never far from her mind, and it has a political edge (growing up in a majority Inuit area, Tanya saw the effects of Canadian attempts to systematically dismantle Inuit culture). Tagaq's art challenges static ideas of genre and culture, and contends with themes of environmentalism, human rights and colonialism.

Oklahoma's largest craft beer and music festival, The Hop Jam, announces it's music lineup, featuring Manchester Orchestra, Nada Surf, Ra Ra Riot, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, and more.
