American teacher and author Bella 'Bel' Kaufman passed away at 8:30 this morning in her apartment on Park Avenue. She was 103 years old, and still writing at the time of her death.

Acclaimed director, actor, and teacher Thomas G. Waites is currently directing THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, being produced by the Baruch College of Performing Arts and the Thomas G. Waites Acting Studio. The production opened on July 10th and is schedule to run through August 3rd. Waites took the time to chat with BroadwayWorld this week about the production. He also shared wisdom on his many years of experience in the business, as well as his career as a teacher.

In a world premiere production, Babes With Blades Theatre Company is proud to present Witch Slap!, by Jeff Goode, at Raven Theatre West Stage, 6157 N Clark St., in Chicago. Previews will be Saturday August 9, Thursday August 14, and Friday August 15 at 8PM, and Sunday August 10 at 3:30PM. The opening is Saturday, August 16 at 8PM, and the show will run Thursdays-Fridays at 8PM and Sundays at 3:30PM from August 16-September 20.

In honor of his upcoming show, Deconstructing Broadway (which plays at the Leicester Square Theatre on August 10), Broadway favorite Seth Rudetsky will be releasing one of his famous Deconstructions every day leading up to the big night. Now he's back with more. Check out his most recent Deconstruction of popular musicals RENT, DREAMGIRLS, and FUNNY GIRL as he examines melodies that have been altered over time in these shows!

Sydney synth-pop duo We Are The Brave have shared the video for Rich Morel's Hot Sauce Mix remix of their mesmerizing single “Sparrow” from their recently released Sparrow (The Remixes) EP. The video, which delves deeper into the noir take on a night at an Australian strip club complete with pole dancing duets, was re-cut and expanded by acclaimed Australian video director James Chappell, whose original version was championed by MTV Buzzworthy and MTV Iggy. Bette Midler recently launched a program called the Stages for Success Initiative in association with The Jeckyl Foundation in hopes to raise money for schools with inadequate auditorium and rehearsal space. In 2012, the foundation completed renovation on a middle school in the South Bronx.
