The Guthrie Theater will present Arsenic and Old Lace, Joseph Kesselring's classic comedy that kills with kindness. As previously announced, the incomparable Sally Wingert returns to the Guthrie stage for the first time since last season's Faith Healer, joining acclaimed comedienne and Broadway veteran Kristine Nielsen to play the pair of well-meaning sisters, Martha and Abby Brewster, respectively. The production, which marks the 70th anniversary of a play The New York Times called 'so funny that none of us will ever forget it,' will be directed by Joe Dowling and presented at the Guthrie for the first time since 1975

The New York Philharmonic's concert presentation of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's COMPANY, which will end its run at Avery Fisher Hall on April 9, will be filmed this weekend for movie theaters, with distribution to begin on June 15, according to a NY Philharmonic spokesperson. Additional details are expected to be announced shortly.

Sidney Lumet, who directed modern American film classics such as '12 Angry Men,' 'Dog Day Afternoon' and 'The Verdict,' died Saturday morning at his home in Manhattan, according to the New York Times. He was 86. His stepdaughter, Leslie Gimbel, cited lymphoma as the cause.

Now in its seventh and most prolific season, the 'outstanding' Momenta Quartet takes on the monumental second string quartet of Arnold Schoenberg with 'engaging' soprano Katharine Dain at 8pm on Monday, April 11th at the Center for Jewish History as part of its ongoing residency at Yeshiva University's Stern College. The program also features Lament for Solo Cello by Yeshiva University faculty Bart Bartholomew and the String Quartet no. 5 (1991) by Philip Glass, who all but invented the concept of the 'Minimalism' in the 1960s and has since written major film scores and commissions for the Metropolitan Opera.

Each has a unique story to be told but using a delightful and emotional mix of songs by established writers like Stephen Sondheim, Cy Coleman, Tommy Wolf and Jimmy Webb and relatively new artists like Sara Bareilles, Susan Werner and Chely Wright, Moira shines a light on the connections that exist between us and the similarities shared by 'Anyone Who Loves'. Moira will be supported by, and singing with, a band featuring some of New York's finest musicians -- Wells Hanley on piano, Brian Griffin on percussion and Ben Mars on bass.
