The Corin Tucker Band is set to return with Kill My Blues September 18 on Kill Rock Stars. The follow-up to the group's critically acclaimed 2010 release 1,000 Years-an album hailed as "thoughtful [and] subtle" by Pitchfork and "a determined effort" by the Los Angeles Times-Kill My Blues finds former Sleater-Kinney frontwoman Tucker returning to her riot grrrl sonic roots along with band members Seth Lorinczi (Golden Bears), Sara Lund (Unwound) and Mike Clark (Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks). A troupe of actors with a penchant for creating unexpected performances on stage will collaborate with an organization devoted to creating theater in unexpected locales as The Vacant Lot Theatre Company debuts, A Child's Drawing of a Monster, in a garage space re-imagined as a performance space by the nonprofit arts advocate, chashama. A selection of six abstract works by Brown University's head of playwrighting, Erik Ehn, A Child's Drawing of a Monster will open at Moe's Taxi, 26-15 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City (one block from Court Square subway stop on the 7, E, G and M lines), on Thursday, July 12, with additional shows on July 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20 and 21. Performance times are 8 PM Wednesday through Saturdays and Sunday at 7 PM. Tickets are $18 USD.

In the vein of recent Circle musicals Urinetown and Tommy, a Reefer Madness like you've never seen before! Matthew Gunnels, no stranger to camp classics, makes his Circle directorial debut bringing this 'high' musical comedy to our stage.

First Run Theatre, a professional company dedicated to presenting world premiere productions of unpublished plays by local-area playwrights, opens its tenth season with "Brooklyn Bagatelle," a two-act "Dramedy" by Neville Mur. Houston-For nearly four decades, the Houston Shakespeare Festival (HSF) has dazzled audiences with professional productions of the Bard's masterpieces. Now, the popular summer festival will take Shakespeare buffs behind the curtain for an inside look at how these plays are produced. The HSF Backstage Pass is an educational program offering adult theatergoers an in-depth journey into the world of professional theater. Participants will meet the festival's professional acting company, directors, designers, dramaturgs and production teams. They also will observe how the shows are prepared, read and discuss plays with stage professionals, and of course, witness two of Shakespeare's greatest works, "Hamlet" and "The Comedy of Errors."

Howard Fishman and the Biting Fish Brass Band will kick off The Jewish Museum's popular SummerNights series with a July 12 concert beginning at 7:30 pm.
