James Van Der Beek, best known for his starring roles on Dawson's Creek and in Varsity Blues and who currently can be seen on ABC's Don't Trust the B-in Apartment 23, is set to appear in the American premiere production of Joanna Murray-Smith's The Gift at the Geffen Playhouse. Joining Van Der Beek is Golden Globe and Emmy award winner Kathy Baker (Picket Fences, Edward Scissorshands, All the King's Men) as well as acclaimed stage and screen actors Chris Mulkey (First Blood, Southland, Twin Peaks) and Jamie Ray Newman (Eastwick, Catch Me If You Can). Helmed by international powerhouse director/actor Maria Aitken, The Gift begins in previews in the Gil Cates Theater at the Geffen Playhouse on January 29, 2013 and officially opens on Wednesday, February 6, 2013.

For the third consecutive year, Pacific Symphony asks "OC Can You Play With Us?" and invites community musicians from across Orange County to play with the orchestra onstage in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. A popular event from the outset, last year the program doubled in size from its launch in 2011 as musicians from all over the community raced to sign up for their spot to play next to Pacific Symphony musicians. This year, the Symphony is again offering four sessions over two nights to allow up to 180 adult amateur musicians (ages 22 and older) the unique opportunity to rehearse and perform under the direction of Music Director Carl St.Clair. Participants perform the fourth movement of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 on Monday, April 8, and Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. New Assistant Conductor Alejandro Gutierrez leads an optional rehearsal on March 9, and participants are invited to attend a private reception with the musicians the night of their performance.

Sundance Institute announced today that actor, writer and director Joseph Gordon-Levitt will host the 2013 Sundance Film Festival feature film Awards Ceremony on January 26 in Park City, Utah and live-streamed at www.sundance.org/festival. The Festival takes place January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.

The Mercury Theater, 3745 N. Southport, begins its highly anticipated 2013 season with the exhilarating Broadway musical revue A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING, running from January 17 through March 10, 2013. The press opening is Sunday, January 20 at 2 p.m. The Tony Award-nominated musical showcases Richard Rodgers' timeless music and the incomparable lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein. A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING is directed and choreographed by multiple Jeff Award winner Kevin Bellie, who previously served as Artistic Director at Circle Theatre.

Colt Coeur's Play Hotel reading series will present an industry reading of Justin Kuritzke's Sensuality Party on Monday, January 14th at 7pm at a private residence in Tribeca. The Alley Theatre's production of Houston native Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park, winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, and the Olivier Award for Best Play (London) starts on the Alley Theatre's Neuhaus Stage January 18 and opens Wednesday, January 23. Concern Worldwide hosts its annual Women of Concern Awards Luncheon on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, 200 North Columbus Drive, Chicago, IL. The event, now in its 15th year, honors women who have demonstrated the qualities of justice, generosity and compassion in their work and daily lives. The 2013 Women of Concern Awards will be presented to Mari Gallagher, Principal of Mari Gallagher Research and Consulting, and Shirley Welsh Ryan, Co-Founder of Pathways Center. The event will recognize their significant accomplishments and exceptional achievements. The funds raised by the luncheon will support Concern's most needed programs in 25 developing countries.
