North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival Closes With Improv, Welcomes Legendary Improviser Susan Messing

This year the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival closes with six days of improv comedy. The festival began as an improv festival and the final weekend is always a highlight. This year the festival is welcoming legendary improviser Susan Messing and acts from all across the country. The improv block runs Tuesday, February 12-Sunday, February 17. Tickets to festival shows range $12 - $18 and are available online at www.nccomedyarts.com. Final shows will take place at DSI Comedy Theater, 200 N Greensboro St. and at the Arts Center 300-G East Main St.

Upright Citizen Brigade has announced February extension dates for The 2017 Tony Awardz, a musical parody by Stephanie Streisand and Rocco Privetera. Performances will be held Monday, February 18th at 8pm and Wednesday, February 27th at 8:00pm (with future dates to be announced). Evan Greenspoon (Jest) directs a cast of seven including Stephanie Streisand (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon), Michael Hartney (30 Rock, Small Time), Richard "Big Rich" Armstead, Adam Bozarth, Caroline Cotter, Matthew Frazier, and Douglas Widick. The 2017 Tony Awardz will run at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, 307 West 26th Street, in New York City.

Beginning in February, Country Dance*New York will be presenting both its weekly dances - American contra dancing and English country dancing - at the Church of the Village at 201 West 13th Street near Seventh Avenue, Manhattan. The church (previously known as Duane Hall) was for nearly 50 years the location for these dances until early 2010 when the hall was closed for renovation. During the past several years dances have been held at other locations.

Casa 0101 Theater, Josefina Lopez, Artistic Director, will present the play, "I Don't Have To Show You No Stinking Badges" written by Luis Valdez, the creator of "Zoot Suit," "La Bamba" and "Cisco Kid." This new production of "I Don't Have To Show You No Stinking Badges" is the first to be presented in Los Angeles in 25 years. It will star Carmelita Maldonado (of El Sereno as Connie Villa), Daniel E. Mora (of Glendale as Buddy Villa), Elizabeth Pan (a native of Thousand Oaks and resident of Beverly Hills as Anita Sakai) and Alex Valdivia (of Santa Monica as Sonny Villa) under the direction of Hector Rodriguez (of South Pasadena). The Canadian Opera Company unveiled its 2013/2014 season today at a press conference at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The company's 64th season stars the world's best singers, conductors, directors and designers in a performance year with seven operas, including three COC premieres and three new COC productions. The COC presents Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème with a new production featuring some of Canada's brightest stars; COC Music Director Johannes Debus makes his Benjamin Britten debut when he conducts Peter Grimes with a production starring acclaimed Canadian tenor Ben Heppner in the iconic title role; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte with a new COC production by renowned film and theatre director Atom Egoyan with Debus conducting; Giuseppe Verdi's Un ballo in maschera starring great Canadian diva Adrianne Pieczonka in a role debut; George Frideric Handel's Hercules with a COC premiere and new COC production by world-renowned director Peter Sellars with a star-studded cast; Gaetano Donizetti's Roberto Devereux with a COC premiere starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in a role debut; and Jules Massenet's Don Quichotte with a COC premiere featuring Debus in another conducting debut and the world's pre-eminent bass Ferruccio Furlanetto in the title role.
