The Generic Theater Launches Acting Studio Program For AdultsJanuary 24, 2013In its repositioning as Virginia's Pro-Am resident theater, The Generic Theater launches an 8-week Acting Studio Program as a response to a growing desire from area actors who seek training. The program is an initiative to support The Generic's visionary pillar of provide access to theater education and training. Last year, Generic Theater for Kids was launched as a response to a need for affordable acting classes for children ages 5 through 18. The program has seen tremendous growth. Since 2010, The Generic has organized and facilitated an annual theater conference where over 200 area citizens participated in workshops, seminars and panels on theater. It has attracted like-minded people who believe in Norfolk's presence and impact in the American theater landscape. The Generic offers affordable and scholarship incentives for prospective individuals to be able to participate with its programs.
Austin Lyric Opera Announces 2013-14 SeasonJanuary 24, 2013Austin Lyric Opera (ALO) has announced its 2013-14 Season, which will include the company premiere of two operatic masterpieces, and the presentation of one perennial favorite. The season opens this November with Don Carlo, Verdi's epic tale of unrequited love and strained family allegiances. ALO will be offering Don Carlo for the first time in the company's history, in celebration of the bicentennial of Verdi's birth. The season continues in January and February 2014 with Tosca, Puccini's volatile drama, returning to the Austin stage for the first time since 2004. The charming and romantic The Elixir of Love brings the season to a close in May 2014, and is another ALO first.

Signature's THE MOUND BUILDERS Casting Announced: Zachary Booth, Lisa Joyce and MoreJanuary 24, 2013Signature Theatre has announced that casting is confirmed and tickets go on sale Tuesday, January 29 for THE MOUND BUILDERS written by Lanford Wilson and directed by Jo Bonney.
