Artist Series Presents THE CAPITOL STEPS, 2/5-10January 28, 2013Thirty years ago, THE CAPITOL STEPS began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the following years, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ('Don't quit your day job!'), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.

Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Release Mahler 9January 28, 2013Celebrating one of the most exciting musical partnerships in classical music, Grammy-winners Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic release their recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 9, available in the U.S. on Deutsche Grammophon on February 19th. The two have previously released recordings available exlusively in the digital format, making this new release the first to be offered as both a physical and digital recording for consumers. The album was recorded live at Los Angeles‘ Walt Disney Concert Hall during the 2012 Mahler project.

The Voice of the Violin, Part 2 expands on the theme of Gil Morgenstern's opening concert at WMP in 2010. Mr. Morgenstern has crafted a second program showcasing the singularly expressive range of the violin and the diverse manner in which composers have exploited it. The program includes: Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 1 in D Major; Webern's Four Pieces for violin and piano, Op. 7; selections from Bach's Partita in E Major for solo violin; Eugene Ysaÿe' Obsession: Prelude from Sonata No. 2 for solo violin; selections from Bartók's Improvisations on Hungarian Peasant Songs; and Ravel's Tzigane.
