STAGE TUBE: Jessie Hooker Wins RENT Internet AuditionApril 6, 2011The new Off-Broadway production of Rent is gearing up for opening on July 14 at New World Stages. As part of the casting process, the producers turned to the internet have the public vote on personally submitted audition tapes. The production recently held a contest for one hopeful to score a real audition in New York City at Telsey and Co. The winner has been selected and the lucky auditioner will be Jessie Hooker from Pennsylvania.
Topol, Harelik, Wilcox Complete Cast for THE NORMAL HEART on BroadwayApril 10, 2011Producer Daryl Roth announced today that casting has been completed for the premiere presentation of Larry Kramer's ground-breaking play, The Normal Heart, on Broadway. Mark Harelik (Mrs. Warren's Profession), Richard Topol (The Merchant of Venice), and Wayne Wilcox (Coram Boy) join the previously announced Ellen Barkin as Dr. Emma Brookner, Patrick Breen as Mickey Marcus, John Benjamin Hickey as Felix Turner, Luke Macfarlane as Craig Donner/Grady, Joe Mantello as Ned Weeks, Lee Pace as Bruce Niles, and Jim Parsons as Tommy Boatwright. Harelik will play the role of Ben Weeks, Topol will play Hiram Keebler/Examining Doctor, and Wilcox will play David. Joel Grey and George C. Wolfe will direct the presentation, which begins its limited 12-week engagement on Tuesday, April 19 at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street), with an official opening night set for Wednesday, April 27.
Star-Filled COMPANY to Be Filmed; Headed to Movie Theatres in JuneApril 6, 2011The New York Philharmonic will present Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking Company, with an all-star cast led by Neil Patrick Harris (Robert), on April 7-9, 2011. The award-winning musical will be produced and directed by Lonny Price, who directed and co-produced last season's SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert!, and will be conducted by Sondheim specialist Paul Gemignani, with the original orchestrations for a 35-piece orchestra by Jonathan Tunick.
