The Un-Common Theatre Company has announced it's 2009-10 season of Improv Soup Shows.

REDCAT in partnership with Villa Aurora and the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles proudly present the U.S. premiere of Anatomie Titus: Fall of Rome, a new film from Berlin-based photographer and filmmaker Brigitte Maria Mayer, on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at REDCAT. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the artist, noted director and theorist John Rouse, and renowned director Peter Sellars.

On October 17, for one night only, Broadway star Karen Mason comes to Mason Street Warehouse for A Night On Broadway, performing songs from stage hits including Chicago, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Sunset Boulevard, Mamma Mia! Funny Girl and many more.

American Theater Company announces the addition of new performance dates for its smash-hit production of Yeast Nation (the triumph of life) by the creators of Urinetown, Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, directed by Artistic Director PJ Paparelli. Moonlight and Magnolias, the new comedy hit that tells the behind-the-scenes story of the making of one of the most celebrated movies of all time, will open Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company's 15th anniversary season on the 70th anniversary of the American movie classic Gone with the Wind. Comedy Works has announced that ROBERT SCHIMMEL will perform at the Comedy Works Landmark Village November 6 and 7.

Our Town will feature KDKA's own John Burnett as Dr. Gibbs and local talent, Gregory Caridi, in the prized role of the Stage Manager. The show is directed by Mark A. Calla, who also directed Prime Stage's highly acclaimed production of The Hound of the Baskervilles in 2008. Burning Coal Theatre Company, a small professional theatre located in Raleigh, North Carolina, will conclude its second MusiCoal season with a concert of the ensemble 'ELM collective'. The concert will take place in the newly renovated Meymandi Theater at the Murphey School, 224 Polk Street in downtown Raleigh on Sunday, October 11 at 7pm. The Music Man, one of America's seminal musicals, will be released on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video early next year.

The New York Times has confirmed that Broadway vet Mandy Patinkin will star in the new play about a man's obsession with the diary of Anne Frank by Rinne Groff, currently titled Compulsion. The play will make its premiere at Yale Repertory Theater next year. Patinkin will reportedly star as a character inspired by Meyer Levin, the journalist and screenwriter who assisted in publicizing the existence of the diary, and who believed that the opportunity to turn it into a play had been stolen from him.

John Strasberg, founder and Artistic Director of the Accidental Repertory Theater, has announced that the company will present as its first public production, the international classic 'BRECHT ON BRECHT,' adapted and translated by George Tabori, and directed by Mr. Strasberg. Ross Patterson will serve as Musical Director for the production. Performances of 'BRECHT ON BRECHT' will begin on Thursday, October 29, and the official opening night will be Sunday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. Accidental Repertory Theater is located at 555 Eighth Avenue, Suite 403 (between 37th and 38th Streets). The run will continue for four weeks through Saturday, November 21.

The 2009 Kurt Weill Prize for outstanding scholarship on music theater since 1900, carrying a cash prize of $10,000, has been awarded to Joshua Goldstein, Assistant Professor of Chinese History, University of Southern California, for his book Drama Kings: Players and Publics in the Re-creation of Peking Opera 1870-1937 (University of California Press, 2007).
