On October 26th and October 27th, a private industry reading of the musical A Day in the Life of Gloucester will take place, featuring Tony Award winner Sutton Foster (Shrek), and Broadway vets Christopher Sieber (Shrek) and Lenny Wolpe (The Drowsy Chaperone). Lonny Price (A Class Act) will direct the reading at Chelsea Studios. The musical features a book by Bob Walton with music and lyrics by Jim Walton.

Alfred Hitchcock's THE 39 STEPS, Broadway's longest running comedy, continues its popular 'Hitchcock Meets Hilarious' Talkback Tuesday series tonight with LITE-FM host Christine Nagy.

The Hartt School presents the Lions Gate Trio on Friday, October 30, at 7:30 PM in Berkman Recital Hall on the University of Hartford's West Hartford campus. For all those out there who have ever been deterred from a career in show biz due to instability can now have restored hope, thanks to one Dennis O'Connell and his fellow stagehands. According to a report on Bloomberg.com this morning, O'Connell, who oversees props at Carnegie Hall earned a whopping $530,044 in salary and benefits during the 2008 fiscal year, while four of his colleagues - two carpenters and two electricians - had an average income of $430,543 this same year, as reported in Carnegie Hall's tax return.

Stage and screen star Joesph Wiseman died yesterday of natural causes at the age of 91 in his Manhattan home.

On Sunday November 1, newcomer Nicole Kafka, a product of New York City and a singer who moonlights at a colorectal surgeon, premieres her second show in two years. 'Vamps, Vixens & Villains,' which Kafka offers up a total of five times in an exclusive two-week engagement running from November 1 to 14 at Don't Tell Mama, is directed by Eric Michael Gillett, with music direction by David Shenton.

Producer Daryl Roth is pleased to welcome Mary Birdsong, Lisa Joyce, Jane Lynch and Mary Louise Wilson to the rotating company of Love, Loss, and What I Wore, an intimate collection of stories by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, and directed by Karen Carpenter, beginning Wednesday, October 21st. The actresses join current company member Tyne Daly.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; W. David McCoy, Chairman of the Board) will honor Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway songwriters Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick with the 18th Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre on Monday, November 23rd. The award will be presented to them by Alice Hammerstein Mathias, daughter of Oscar Hammerstein II.

The movie awards season kicked off this morning when the nominees for the 19th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards were announced. The nominations were announced by 'At the Movies' co-host and New York Times theater critic A.O. Scott. The awards will be held Nov. 30 at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York.

TARZAN®, Disney's musical based on the stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs and the 1999 animated film, celebrated its first anniversary at the Theater Neue Flora last night with a special gala performance attended by the show's composer and international recording star, Phil Collins. The Hamburg production continues to be one of the most popular shows in Germany having played to more than 714,000 guests in its first phenomenally successful year.

A panel of prominent American playwrights including Kia Corthron, Lisa Kron and Adam Rapp, will discuss with celebrated photographer Ken Collins how they approach creating portraits with words and with a camera, respectively at a one-time-only event entitled 'Face to Face: Portraits in Theatre and Photography' on Monday, October 26 at 7 p.m. at New Dramatists (424 W. 44 St.) in Manhattan. Presented by the Off-Broadway theater company, The Play Company as part of its Idea Lab series, in conjunction with Umbrage Editions, the evening will also feature brief excerpts from the playwrights' work along with an exhibition of photographs from 'In Their Company,' a series of black and white portraits by Mr. Collins that portray some of America's most distinguished playwrights. A reception follows in the New Dramatists Library.
